Please post songs that make you cry..
I am such a sucker for Japanese dorama theme songs. Jdorama sometimes reaches right into my heart, and the songs from those just break me down so fast, that I am sobbing, hearing them! I will post
some of my favorites.. Please post songs that make you cry.

1. Genesis - "Afterglow"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-x-hbeIfEo

It was "our song" with my girlfriend of 2 1/2 years. She died in a car accident (chasing me) the night before the Genesis concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. Some friends knew where they were staying and we showed up ahead of time. Collins, Banks, and Rutherford got out of a green Ford Fairmont (yes, a rental) and I met him, explained, and he gave me a hug. I cried throughout the song that night.

7. Awww sad...
Edited on Mon Nov-07-11 02:06 PM by AsahinaKimi
That reminds me of this girl I knew, who told me she can't listen to X-Japan's song TEARS cause on the night of the concert, she and her boyfriend watched them preform, and they got a bit drunk at the concert, and were in a car accident. She survivied, but he didn't have on seat belts, and died instantly. She told me to this day, she can't listen to the song, without breaking down and crying.

3. Mr. Children, "Namonaki Uta," from the drama "Pure" starring Emi Wakui.
Played at the end of each episode, as well as during especially dramatic moments.

"Pure" was my favorite J-drama of all. I used to watch San Francisco Channel 26 every week, so I've seen quite a few. including "Virgin Road" (also starring Emi Wakui) and several starring Noriko Sakai in her pre-scandal career prime.

It is not that the Mr. Children song is "sad" by itself, it is the context of being used in "Pure."

I love Mr. Children, have a few of their songs. They always seem to make themes for Jdorama.. love their stuff, thanks for sharing! I will have to look for that dorama. I know who Emi Wakui is, she is really a great actress..she was in a few drama's I have seen.

By the way, one of my favorite songs, by Mr. Children is called "Tomorrow Never Knows".

10. The Parting Glass.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqcdTinjKvA

Poignant, wistful, and with no regrets.
Of all the money that e'er I spent
I've spent it in good company
And all the harm that ever I did
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all

If I had money enough to spend
And leisure to sit awhile
There is a fair maid in the town
That sorely has my heart beguiled
Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips
I own she has my heart enthralled
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all

Oh, all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be with you all

Both are gone now, and the world is a poorer place for it.

I first saw them play live in 1965, The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem, and many times thereafter.

20. And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda

written and performed by Scottish-born Australian singer and song-writer Eric Bogle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7z_dUOhkygY

When I was a young man I carried me pack
And I lived the free life of the rover
From the Murray's green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my Matilda all over
Then in 1915 my country said: Son,
It's time to stop rambling, there's work to be done
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war

And the band played Waltzing Matilda
When the ship pulled away from the quay
And amid all the tears, flag waving and cheers
We sailed off for Gallipoli

It well I remember that terrible day
When our blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell they call Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk, he was ready, he primed himself well
He rained us with bullets, and he showered us with shell
And in five minutes flat, we were all blown to hell
He nearly blew us back home to Australia

And the band played Waltzing Matilda
When we stopped to bury our slain
Well we buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then it started all over again

Oh those that were living just tried to survive
In that mad world of blood, death and fire
And for ten weary weeks I kept myself alive
While around me the corpses piled higher
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over head
And when I awoke in me hospital bed
And saw what it had done, I wished I was dead
I never knew there was worse things than dying

Oh no more I'll go Waltzing Matilda
All around the green bush far and near
For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs both legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me

They collected the wounded, the crippled, the maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
The armless, the legless, the blind and the insane
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla
And when the ship pulled into Circular Quay
I looked at the place where me legs used to be
And thank Christ there was no one there waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity

And the Band played Waltzing Matilda
When they carried us down the gangway
Oh nobody cheered, they just stood there and stared
Then they turned all their faces away

Now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
I see my old comrades, how proudly they march
Renewing their dreams of past glories
I see the old men all tired, stiff and worn
Those weary old heroes of a forgotten war
And the young people ask "What are they marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question

And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men still answer the call
But year after year, their numbers get fewer
Someday, no one will march there at all

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
Who'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me?
And their ghosts may be heard as they march by the billabong
So who'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me?

(The phrase “to hump tent and pegs” means to carry a tent and tent stakes on one’s back.)

Not cry, but makes me reflective sadly of a different time in my life.

however, there is an entire Bonnie Raitt album I can not listen to. It completely breaks me up. It's from an era of my life that was so hard and so difficult. It brings up so truly depressing and sad memories. Sad, in the way of expended energy into someone that drained me dry of my love and emotions. Luck of the draw.

Just thinking about it gets me a little misty eyed.

32. "Vincent"
Starry starry night, paint your palette blue and grey
Look out on a summer's day with eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills, sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills, in colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand what you tried to say to me
How you suffered for you sanity How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they did not know how, perhaps they'll listen now

Starry starry night, flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
Colors changing hue, morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

Chorus:
For they could not love you, but still your love was true
And when no hope was left in sight, on that starry starry night
You took your life as lovers often do,
But I could have told you, Vincent,
This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you

Starry, starry night, portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls with eyes that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the stranger that you've met, the ragged man in ragged clothes
The silver thorn of bloody rose, lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know what you tried to say to me
How you suffered for you sanity How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will.

44. Kilkelly -Moloney O'Connell & Keane
http://youtu.be/wcO8jquCQ8U

Kilkelly, Ireland, 18 and 60, my dear and loving son John
Your good friend the schoolmaster Pat McNamara's so good
As to write these words down.
Your brothers have all gone to find work in England,
The house is so empty and sad
The crop of potatoes is sorely infected,
A third to a half of them bad.
And your sister Brigid and Patrick O'Donnell
Are going to be married in June.
Your mother says not to work on the railroad
And be sure to come on home soon.

Kilkelly, Ireland, 18 and 70, dear and loving son John
Hello to your Mrs and to your 4 children,
May they grow healthy and strong.
Michael has got in a wee bit of trouble,
I guess that he never will learn.
Because of the dampness there's no turf to speak of
And now we have nothing to burn.
And Brigid is happy, you named a child for her
And now she's got six of her own.
You say you found work, but you don't say
What kind or when you will be coming home.

Kilkelly, Ireland, 18 and 80, dear Michael and John, my sons
I'm sorry to give you the very sad news
That your dear old mother has gone.
We buried her down at the church in Kilkelly,
Your brothers and Brigid were there.
You don't have to worry, she died very quickly,
Remember her in your prayers.
And it's so good to hear that Michael's returning,
With money he's sure to buy land
For the crop has been poor and the people
Are selling at any price that they can.

Kilkelly, Ireland, 18 and 90, my dear and loving son John
I guess that I must be close on to eighty,
It's thirty years since you're gone.
Because of all of the money you send me,
I'm still living out on my own.
Michael has built himself a fine house
And Brigid's daughters have grown.
Thank you for sending your family picture,
They're lovely young women and men.
You say that you might even come for a visit,
What joy to see you again.

Kilkelly, Ireland, 18 and 92, my dear brother John
I'm sorry that I didn't write sooner to tell you that father passed on.
He was living with Brigid, she says he was cheerful
And healthy right down to the end.
Ah, you should have seen him play with
The grandchildren of Pat McNamara, your friend.
And we buried him alongside of mother,
Down at the Kilkelly churchyard.
He was a strong and a feisty old man,
Considering his life was so hard.
And it's funny the way he kept talking about you,
He called for you in the end.
Oh, why don't you think about coming to visit,
We'd all love to see you again.

with 2 hungry children
and a crop in the field.

I have some bad times
lived through some sad times
but this time, the hurting's for real

This, and "Born to Lose" by Ray Charles.
I heard this song blaring outside a saloon, while some poor drunk slob was puking and talking on the payphone intermittently through his sobs.

The first song to ever make me cry while I was driving. Not good.

Oh, and Death Cab for Cutie's "Cath," one of those songs that make me wonder, "Why did they write this, let alone set it to music? It is so goddamn sad no one will want to listen to it more than a couple of times in this life."

60. This one has done it to me for a long time
The Moody Blues' "Watching and Waiting"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYenQ5C77nk

Another: Simon Nicol (of Fairport Convention) "The Deserter":

Here I stand in a land that isn't my own
In the green of the country that I know as home
I was sent here by government armed by the King
And I'm told I must kill men in order to bring
Peace to a foreign land

There he lies on a land that isn't his own
In the grey of the country that he knows as home
He was sent here by government, might not agree
And if someone must kill him God why is it me?
To bring peace to a foreign land

Chorus
Don't despise the deserter
Don't despise the deserter
Don't despise the deserter
Who ran from the war

So I bent down to drag him away from the wire
But the rifles to the left of me had started to fire
He was riddled with bullets smothered in blood
And I don't see how murdering somebody could
Bring peace to a foreign land

So I ran from the fighting threw down my gun
And I ran by the moon and slept by the sun
Now arrested by government charged by the King
To be shot 'cos I can't kill in order to bring
Peace to a foreign land

Above, is called PRESENT sung by Tamaki Koji who incidently stars in the drama called "Ai no Uta" which means LOVE SONG.

Present by Tamaki Koji
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlH-Gh4PSDU

The story is about a young woman, who had been abandoned by her parents, and nearly everyone in her life. She decides the best way to deal with her so called life is to end it, by jumping off a bridge. Fortunately, the water she jumps into isn't very deep, so depressed that she can't even correctly kill herself, she goes into a near by bar that happens to be frequented by an older Tokyo Police officer.

He is a widower, and has three lovely Children, and is close to retirement age. The other thing, which he has told no one, is that he has a terminal disease..And doesn't know if he will live long enough to see the New Year. His problem is he doesn't know how to tell his kids.

In any case, spotting the girl, who is soaked though asks her why she was all wet, since it wasn't the rainy season, and she tells him point blank, that she was trying to jump off the bridge. Asking her, if she has a place to stay, she says no..so he kindly takes her in.

The girl has refused to give him, her real name, so he names her "Ai chan". ("Ai" means love.) He tells her he can give her a place to stay, food to eat and money, if she will be a nanny to his kids..

here is a clip from the Drama.. which is why to me, the song above is such a tear jerker..

70. "Into Dust" by Mazzy Star
Beautiful and melancholy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO30b_SxLzE

Still falling
Breathless and on again
Inside today
Beside me today
Around broken in two
till you eyes shed
Into dust
Like two strangers
Turning into dust
till my hand shook with the way I fear

I could possibly be fading
Or have something more to gain
I could feel myself growing colder
I could feel myself under your fate
Under your fate

It was you breathless and tall
I could feel my eyes turning into dust
And two strangers turning into dust
Turning into dust

It never did until I asked my father, when I was 13 or so, what it was about.

Now we're both so much older, I might cry without hearing it.
