And now, by popular demand, a photo of Socrates next to a measuring device
Namely, the checkerboard floor of the great room, with foot-square tiles. :P

Not small, he.

1. Ooof.
That's a lotta cat.

My Mother-in-law has a big kitty like that too but not quite that big. Yikes.

4. Ooof is right
Especially when we pick him up - not too often these days - or trucking him 2 and a half flights of stairs in his carrier coming back from the vet. I need an exhausted smilie. :P

6. Does he know that he isn't a little kitty anymore.
My m-i-l's cat thinks he can sit anywhere. And then get ticked off when he doesn't fit.

8. He sometimes needs a ride up to the bed, which is very tall
Other than that, he seems to get on okay. :) He sleeps in the space under the fireplace sometimes - don't ask me how he manages to wedge himself in there, much less ooze out. :P

2. What do you feed
him? He is bigger than my Bo-Bo - no small feat.

3. The same exact stuff the other cats eat
in pretty much the same quantities. I have not clue one why he weighs almost 28 pounds and his brother only 18. :P

5. 17+17+2=36"
Socrates weighs ~9 lbs. per foot of front-toes-to-rear-toes stretched out length! I showed this to my husband and he chuckled and said, "So I was right about the yardstick."

If Socrates uses his whiskers to judge whether he can pass through an opening, I hope he doesn't get stuck!

9. ROFL!
Depending on where he aims his tail, he does indeed take up 9 sq ft on the floor, if you count any square he touches as the full square foot. :D

As it turns out, there is one species of cat out there with impossibly wide shoulders that prevent it from fitting in a space where its head can go. I can't think of it right now, but the first time I saw it, I thought "Hmmm - wonder if he has some of THAT DNS as well..!" :P
