Once and for all. Manhattan or New England style clam chowder?
Personally, I think Manhattan style is an abomination and a crime against humanity.

15. I don't even believe Manhatten style really exists.
I have never once seen it in a store or restaurant. I have never known anyone who would admit to eating it.

I am convinced Manhattan Style Clam Chowder is the Chupacabra of soups. A scary story told late at night around the campfire to keep the scouts from wandering off into the night. "Keep to your tents, kids - there's tomatoes in clam chowder out there!"

Pffft. Manhattan style clam chowder indeed. I scoff at thee! SCOFF!

18. I grew up 20 miles from Manhattan
and we had to eat that reddish slop in our school lunches sometimes.

When I discovered New England clam chowder, birds began to sing, angels blew their trumpets, the sun started dancing ... I fell in love.

Now I'm not trying to cast aspersions on your cousin. I think he or she may have been lied to.

28. Where is the love for Rhode Island chowdah?
just clams in a clear garlicky broth.

Actually Rhode Islanders themselves generally go for the generic New England variety these days. :-)

In Rhode Island, and only in Rhode Island, I order Rhode Island chowder. However, when in Manhattan I order New England chowder.

I've had my heart attack, thank you very much.

I don't eat milk or cream-based anything anymore. Besides, I like the Progresso version of Manhattan chowder.

33. I used to work in a soup and sandwich chain in the DC area.
New England clam chowder would sell 'like hot cakes' all day, every day, any day.

Manhattan style was a big money loser. No one ever wanted it. We eventually stopped carrying it.
