And Jimmy Rollins is a Barack Obama fan. Came to the pep rally we had the night before the 2008 elections. It was in Philadelphia and it was lead by Joe Biden. Jill Biden was absolutely starstruck - she is a massive Phillies fan and Rollins gave her a Jersey.

3. Normally I don't but when it's blantently obvious it bothers me

I know that sports stars, on a whole, tend to contribute to republican candidates. I don't normally let this bother me. But for Pujols and LaRussa, they knowing went to a very political gathering that was anti-working class and anti-government and borderline racist. That I have an issue with.

I hope the cardinals lose.

He's still an asshole. Obviously that genius mind he has in regards to baseball doesn't translate well when it comes to politics. He was part of a rally that was organized by Glenn Beck and had Sarah Palin as a speaker. I have issues with that. To me the Tea Party is borderline racist and I think any sports star who has half a brain would stay away from that mess.

The team is greater than whatever the political affiliations of its current players/managers may be. St. Louis is the best baseball city in America and I'm glad I grew up a Cards fan.

Beck was stalking those two for months as he couldn't get anybody there from MLB. Why they relented? Don't know. But the team went into a nose dive for some time after the event.


This is not abnormal; the ant farm that is Major League Baseball is designed to keep the outside world as far away as possible. But this is exactly why Tony La Russa is attending Glenn Beck's rally tomorrow in Washington. He simply doesn't know. Glenn Beck is just some guy who's on television that he and Albert Pujols met in the dugout one time.

I really, really don't care who roots for who here on DU. I just thought it was worth throwing out there. Maybe there are mitigating circumstances, but Pujols did speak at that Teabag event, so he must be of a similar ilk.

But I don't think it's a convincing argument to hold an entire organization accountable for the actions of a very small minority, particularly when that organization does not endorse the actions of the minority.

That's extremely disappointing information regarding LaRussa and Pujols. Especially LaRussa. It's hard to believe that a guy who founded an animal rescue could be such a jerk.
