Any of you gone geocaching?
Just wondering what to leave as trinkets... some suggestions would be nice.

My husband and I are going to start, mainly as an effort to try to spice up our walks - they have lost that magic feeling (hah)

1. most of the trinkets I've seen
were stuff you could buy in a 25 cent gumball machine.

3. i don't pick up from the cache but i will leave items
here in louisiana i'm aware of some geocache sites and to have fun w. people's minds i will leave a crystal, stone, or fossil, you may laugh but in southeast louisiana we don't have rocks, we have only MUD so it's actually a cute thing for the kids to collect

if mn is minnesota everyone already knows what a rock is but if you have a POLISHED stone or something of that nature or another small souvenir type item it would be cute

a foreign coin or three would be another cute idea

however to be honest i never get bored on walks because in louisiana a HUGE hobby is the birds, there is always something out there to identity and if it's too hot/middle of the day when you walk for birds, we have the odontates (dragonflies)

use a mixed approach maybe take/give at the geocache (and free box sites if you also walk in more suburban/urban areas) but also learn a bit about bird/dragonfly ID, i don't know much about your area but i'm guessing these simple ideas will give you plenty to do on your walks

i'm never bored...overwhelmed and wanting to hide on the internet sometimes...but never bored

enjoy!

7. I like the idea of polished stones
We actually have a lot of beautiful places to walk here in Minnesota, we walk with our dogs so its nice to have new places for them to sniff. They like a variety of smells. I used to walk the same trails in my hometown for years and never got bored. But my husband is not much of a nature guy - so the combination of walking plus using the GPS on his phone (he is a major computer geek and rarely gets away from some type of square monitor) is a great way to get him to walk with me and the furry kids

4. Yes, it's lots of fun. Just leave something simple, maybe something that represents your town.
I can't wait to try geo-caching on my next travels outside the US.

5. Hit up the dollar stores
Just put in some cheapo things that kids might like - super balls, dice, little matchbox cars, crayons...it's fun hobby, maybe once you get going you can hide your own box and then experience the fun of having people find it :)

6. that's what I have read on the geocache site
since we are beginners, its sounds like many of the easier will be found by kids with their families and should be more kid friendly.

Thanks
