DAMMIT! The Original Star Trek Theme Song Has LYRICS!!!!
Edited on Sun Aug-28-11 04:09 PM by Archae
Bit of a copycat...

But yes, Gene Roddenberry wrote "lyrics" for the original Star Trek theme tune so he could cash in on the Alexander Courage tune also.

2. Here...
Beyond
The rim of the star-light
My love
Is wand'ring in star-flight
I know
He'll find in star-clustered reaches
Love,
Strange love a star woman teaches.
I know
His journey ends never
His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me.

Roddenberry supposedly wrote them after Alexander Courage wrote the music just so he could split the residuals.

3. And I wish that Enterprise didn't have lyrics
Cause I've got faith of the heart
I'm going where my heart will take me
I've got faith to believe I can do anything
I've got strength of the soul
And no one's gonna bend or break me
I can reach any star I've got faith etc. etc. ad nauseum

7. Well, sure, that make sense
The mirror universe being essentially Bizarro World for Star Trek fans. Since the orginal theme sucked, all they had to do for Mirror Universe is come up with a good theme...

11. As did the Dick Van Dyke Show
I was listening to "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" this weekend, and they played a re-run of Dick Van Dyke on their "Not My Job" segment. Just as they were going away, Mo Rocca hummed the theme from the Dick Van Dyke Show, and Van Dyke said, "That song has lyrics, you know. Would you like to hear them?"

Good lord, yes! And so:

THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW THEME SONG
(Music by Earle Hagen / Lyrics by Morey Amsterdam)
Dick Van Dyke

So you think that you've got troubles?
Well, trouble's a bubble,
So tell old Mr. Trouble to "Get lost!".

Why not hold your head up high and,
Stop cryin', start tryin',
And don't forget to keep your fingers crossed.

When you find the joy of livin'
Is lovin' and givin'
You'll be there when the winning dice are tossed.

A smile is just a frown that's turned upside down,
So smile, and that frown will defrost.
And don't forget to keep your fingers crossed!
