5. It's something men did, at first
Specifically, French royalty. (Hence the name.) They did it because commoners--the people who did manual labor--always had beat-up, scroungy hands with nails that looked like they belonged on someone who worked for a living, and having pretty nails meant you didn't work with your hands.

Women do it because it looks like "well maintained natural nails" if it's done correctly--a nice glossy nail bed and perfectly clean tips. I think it's a really boring look; the tips are okay, but if you're going to go to all the time and trouble of getting a manicure, paint 'em a color and put a contrasting tip on there.

14. I understand the royalty vs working folks nails;
DON'T get the white stuff. Don't mind colored polish (and may get some for daughter's wedding Friday,) but NONE of that white stuff!

8. It's even more mysterious to me, because as a nurse and specifically NICU nurse,
I know what grows under those fake nails. Most hospitals have outright banned them, some are too slowly heading that way.

7. I don't gravitate towards women who spend that much on their nails. I know it is the hippie in me.

10. SQEEEEE!!! And I like French manicures.
Reality TV stars have given them a bad reputation. But, I stick to natural these days.

12. I guess I am lucky.
My natural nails are long and strong.

I work, too. Yesterday, I cleaned my brother's entire apartment. He is in a nursing home for awhile. Today, I washed windows at home.

BTW, what is the cute little critter?

Never needed fake nails - my own grow so well I have a hard time keeping up with them. And I've learned how to give myself a manicure. Right now I have a very professional looking polish job on my long, healthy nails, and it didn't cost me a dime and I've got no fungus or weird glue exposure. :) I'm sure everyone who notices my hands assumes that I spent $30 at the salon this week.
