Question for MAC Users
Quick question for MAC Users. I'm filling out an application online and for some reason I can type in the number five. All other numbers are OK but not five. I've tried restarting but am baffled why this is happening. Any suggestions? Thanks!

1. I can't think of a single reason. But if you don't figure it our and really need to finish that ap:
Go find a 5 on the internet and highlight it and copy it to your clipboard. (Control C)

Then you can just paste it where you need it.

Here, you can use this one:

5

Not sure what's wrong or if you're on a notebook or desktop...

and the numbers 1 through 3 wouldn't work. I would just find one of those number in another post and paste them in. Finally, I just became tired of doing that and just bought a new keyboard. You can buy it through Apple for $49.95 with free shipping.

2. Is this true for all applications, or only that one form you're trying to fill out?
If the only case is that one application, I would say that there's something wrong with that web site, not your computer. If you can't type a 5 at all, no matter what program you're using, then there may be something wrong with your keyboard.

3. Is it the number pad or the numbers across the top too.
If it's the number pad only...your number-lock is on. Don't ask me how to turn it off, I don't use Macs. That's a rather universal computer problem though. Some keyboards do nothing if you type a 5 with num-lock on, some type a "5".

4. Thanks!
I'm on a regular MAC OS X desk computer. No,it's happening on emails, forum posts,I even tried typing my phone number(which has two fives in it) on Google and nothing. I don't think they keys are locked. Just can't figure out why its one number. I typed my number to someone in an email yesterday with no problem.

5. Did you spill something on the keyboard?
Keys stop working when liquid gets underneath and messes with the key contact.

Can you type "%" or shift-5? If not, your keyboard is at fault.

Google "clean keyboard after a spill" or try spraying dust-off or DeoxIT.

9. I'm
I'm usually very good at not eating or keeping food or drinks around the computer. I do sometimes keep bottled water nearby but to the best of my knowledge,I have not spilled anything on it. Odd that no other key but the 'FIVE' key is the one I'm having problems with. I might just need to buy a new keyboard. Thanks for the replies!

11. Before buying a new one...
Try this, and swab the contacts with isopropyl alcohol (91%)... Ya might as well try.

12. Until you can get your keyboard fixed, try this...
First open the System Preferences and click on Keyboard. There's an option "Show Keyboard & Character Viewer in menu bar"--turn that on. Then click on the little icon and select Keyboard Viewer. A little picture of your keyboard will pop up. Now, every time you need a 5 just click on the 5 key on the Keyboard Viewer, and you'll get one.
