. . . ... racing, endurance swimming (I would swim LAKES while fully-clothed), scuba, lifeguarding... but I never was much of a diver. I could do ONE dive well -- I would face backwards on the end of the board... bounce a time or two... bounce OUT away from the board while tucking into a very smooth dive (with my back TOWARDS the board). . One time, I didn't bounce OUT enough and the back of my head solidly clipped the board -- enough to cause some fairly significant bleeding (the scalp DOES bleed easily and a lot). I was fortunate that I didn't knock myself out and from then on my diving repertoire was down to zero. . I was probably in my mid-twenties, having never successfully done even a simple flip off of a diving board... when my roommate showed me just what to do from off the side of the pool. Without having the height of a board, I was able to get 3/4 of the way around (SMACKING flat down on my back). I tried it from a board, but pushed it successfully into a 1-1/2 flip. I never did get the hang of a single flip, but I nailed that 1-1/2 then and ever after. . One of the bravest... BRAVEST things I've ever done in my life was a 1-1/2 flip dive while skinnydipping. I only did it ONCE. Successfully. . That was (and has been) quite enough, tyvm. . . .
