All I wanna know is should I buy a Makita planer?
My son and I are building him a house. He will have to do all the trim work. I am thinking about buying a bench planer, specifically a Makita. Any of you know anything about them - I sure don't, other than I know what they do and enough of how they work to do what I need to get done. About quality and utility, I'm just banking on the Makita name and anything one of you might want to share. Oh, I have other Makita tools so my expectations are very high. Will I be satisfied?

1. It's a nice planer...
I would go for the DeWalt, but the Makita will work well.

2. I've been looking at them too. Does the "Made in China" bother you
Some of the Makitas are made in Korea, some in the USA, and some in Japan. Needless to say I'm hoping to get one that was made in Japan. All of the DeWalts tools are now made in China, or at least every one I've looked at in the last two or three years. I really don't want to buy Chinese.

3. That was exactly why I quit
buying DeWalt stuff a while back. If I am going to buy Chinese, I at least want to pay Chinese prices, not inflated "quality brand" prices.

4. Makita blows Dewalt out of the water
when it comes to cordless tools. I don't know about their planers, but I've never used a Makita tool that I didn't like. I own a lot of Dewalt tools and when they go bad, I'm replacing them with Makita.
I'm in construction and I've noticed a lot of people are switching to Makita.
