Photo from a Quinceañera.
One of my daughter's friends celebrated her Quinceañera today (15th birthday). As I've said before, I'm not much of a portrait photographer, but sometimes I get lucky. :) Here's the birthday girl releasing a white dove.

BTW, that's bluesgirl on the right side of the photo at the tip of the dove's left wing. :)

I was chaperone at my sister's quinceañera.

That's no small party.

You're right there. This was a nice one at out local Veterans Hall. They had an interesting feature that I have not seen before. A guy came with a portable picture booth like you'd see at a fair. Had all kinds of prop clothing for people to dress up and take wacky photos. The kids loved it!

11. Thank you.
It all happened so fast, there was no way to set it up. She and the dove were just in the best spot for the sunlight and the rest of the party was back in the shade a bit, so it really made her stand out. Again, I'm a very lucky photographer. :)

17. You're right, that's definitely a "moment." Photographers LIVE for those.
Can only imagine the look on the faces of this girl's grandkids when she pulls out the photo and says "This was me."

The family saw the LCD image on the camera yesterday and were very pleased. I just got finished printing out an 8x10 and I'll frame it and take it over later today. Can't wait to see their reaction to the big print. :)

23. Thanks lunatica.
The hall has a pretty high roofline and the crowd was dispersed on the steps, so when the birthday girl walked forward to release the dove she walked right into the light. Couldn't have asked for better positioning. :)

25. Very nice!
I sometimes get those perfectly timed shots as well. I took one in India a couple of years ago of an auto-rickshaw that was passing us in traffic. It was a spur-of-the-moment shot, but the picture came out looking perfectly frozen in time.

46. Here it is:

I shot it through a car window. We were moving fairly slowly in traffic while the auto-rickshaw buzzed by us. I framed the shot and took the picture in less than two seconds. I think it came out pretty good, considering.

If you'd like to see more of my India pics (a lot more, believe me), they're on my Facebook page. I can send you a link if you're already a member. Just mention your username so I know it's you.

34. Exactly right. Those receptions are a great time.
I never made much as most of the people I shot for did not have much money, but I mostly did it as a hobbby and there were guys charging them an arm and a leg taking very crappy pic's. I'm not great, but I figured their memories deserved better. I always got to eat and the people were great, when I retired I had to turn a bunch down for medical reasons. I hated missing them, still miss them. I do go to some here in mexico though.:)

Sorry to go off track, the pic was really great. Didn't mean to take it off track.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I love hearing things like that and I hope Mexico has been good for your health!

My main focus in photography is sports shots for the teams my kids play on. I've never charged for any of it and I'm pretty sure that my shots are at least as good as the stuff that the "pros" come in and do at tournaments. I just enjoy seeing the looks on peoples faces when I hand them a shot of their kid caught in some moment of activity like below:

35. That looks to be a lovely dress the girl is wearing
I've seen some photos of other Quinceañera celebrations and some of them look like a giant cloud of Cotton Candy & Sequins upchucked all over the dress. It looks as though the dress the girl is wearing is very elegant.
