Crochet hooks and lavatory faucet popup
Got disgusted with my sink draining so slow, so I unscrewed the little stainless cap of the popup and got busy.

First I dumped a whole box (small) of baking soda into the drain and a bit of vinegar. Filled up the sink with water and when it was full, unscrewed the cap and used the little plunger and got very little to the surface. Then it dawned on me to use tweezers to pull some stuff up, and that didn't work.

Then I thought of crochet hooks. Don't crochet but had them for fixing snags in sweaters and doubleknits (you remember doubleknits). Used two different sizes - yarn type and lace type. Played around pulling junk out of the drain with the hooks - I actually enjoyed doing this.

Then, my husband told me I wasn't supposed to EVER remove that cap, and you had to take that popup out from under the sink - remove all the towels, etc., and he did this. He didn't have to . It was clear, beautifully clear. The crochet hook worked.

His way is okay if you have good knees. I have one replaced and his probably should be.

Amen

1. I love baking soda and vinegar to clean drains.
I see all sorts of nasty stuff bubble up when I do that.

2. For $3 - this is the best thing to get the hair out of drains

Make sure you wear gloves because the snakey part is prickly. And the thing says 'one-time use only' but I can use mine several times. But it does work like a charm!

3. Thanks, and it's only $2.48....
I think one-time use is maybe sanitation . . .

I will buy one of these very soon - I live near Lowe's and it's available on the link you sent.

Thank you very much...

6. Well that's if you don't want to clean the thing up
First time I cleaned out my drain with one I just wanted to toss it.

But now I can use them again and again since there isn't as much gunk down the drain. Easier to clean up!

8. We have one in the tub
It's just a small stainless cup with lots of holes in it. I empty it everytime I shower.
