Fortunately my mom was a doctor and had some syringes in the basement. So I shot the sherry into the sponge cake by needle. Worked great!

1. Have you ever seen the Friends episode where Rachel makes a trifle?
Hilarious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mx5Wpqf4-OM

Sorry that doesn't really answer your question but it's my favorite cooking disaster and it was saved by Joey eating it.

4. That was hilarious
Whipped cream-good, pudding-good, jelly-good, meat-good...

Ross: "Tastes like feet!" :)

2. about 20+ years ago I made my first pumpkin pie...ya know easy Libby kind
about 10 minutes after it was in the oven, I remembered about the evaporated milk. Managed to mix it all in and put it back in. The saving grace was an enormous dollop of homemade whipped cream. :)

3. Not mine, thank God, but one of the all time best...
In Boston there used to be a DJ on WBZ by the name of Dave Maynard. He was also a foodie. He had a radio talk show every Thanksgiving morning where people could call in with questions about cooking T'giving dinner. One Thanksgiving a woman called in in a complete panic because her turkey had blown itself out of the oven and hit the wall on the opposite side of the kitchen. Seems that she a inadvertently knocked a can of beans into the turkey pan, had not notived, and had put the turkey in the over. When the oven got hot enough, the can exploded sending Thanksgiving dinner flying across the kitchen. Maynard replayed that call every Thanksgiving after that. :-)

5. Sometime after seperating from my ex-wife long ago...
.
.
.
... I invited a bunch of my fellow medics over for a beef roast dinner.
.
.
.
I decided to make gravy from scratch. Found the half-gallon glass bottle
holding the flour and started adding it to the drippings (my first attempt
at gravy). I did EVERYTHING correctly, but it just wouldn't thicken,
despite the fact that I added more and more and more.
.
.
.
I finally did a moist-finger-taste of the "flour". Confectioner's sugar.
.
But the roast was DELICIOUS -- a glazed roast... a big ol' beef donut.
.
.
.
I didn't "save" it... the Good Cooking Fairy saved ME.
.
.
.

7. Was the one time my mom came up with a lateral idea. Usually it was my dad who thought laterally. My
mom thought more about the future.
