Kobe Bryant arrested for sexual assault
Edited on Sun Jul-06-03 07:48 PM by Paragon
http://msn.espn.go.com/nba/news/2003/0706/1577357.html

A warrant has been issued by the Eagle County (Colo.) Sherriff's Office for the arrest of Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant.

An unidentified woman filed a report with authorities July 1 alleging sexual misconduct by Bryant at a hotel in Eagle County.

Law enforcement officials who reviewed evidence concluded there was sufficient evidence to charge Bryant with felony sexual assault. Authorities say Bryant has been cooperative during the investigation.

1. Geez
I thought Kobe was pretty much a straight arrow. He and his wife just had a daughter earlier this year.

11. Yeah, this doesn't seem to fit
Then again, a corked bat and Sammy Sosa didn't seem to fit either...:(
I hope that this turns out to be false; I'm not a big basketball fan but Kobe seems to be pretty cool. And this doesn't sound like him.

3. just what the media has been wanting
the Lacey story is losing steam, nothing like a Mike Tyson/OJ news "event"....to provide a cover and distraction for the neo-con blunders.

5. Good point
I remember Michael Irvin was accused of rape a few years ago and it turned out to be false. And he's no choirboy.

6. this is VERY hard to believe
i find it very hard to believe he would do something like this. of course it's innocent until proven guilty. but there are times you think in your mind that the accused is guilty. in this case i find it very hard to believe he would do something like this.

7. As a Spurs fan
I have to say I have trouble believing this. Kobe, for all the rivalry the teams have had, has generally been a class act, and a straight arrow.

Here's hoping there's a legitimate investigation that arrives at the truth.

10. As a Jazz fan
who lives in Southern California I am stunned and incredulous. But I am refraining from weighing in further until we have all the facts.
Kobe?!?!?! Plenty of idiots out there to choose from when it comes to doing stupid things; never thought Kobe was like that.

13. Odds are the allegations are exagerated, reversed, or outrigt false...
If this is yet another narcissistic woman after the usual money/fame/power/children as she so much as "claims to be in fear", thus rakes another innocent man, and in this case a real role model, over the (men-only) coals of the courts... she needs to be publicly humiliated to set an example. Perhaps this will be the false allegation that breaks the militant feminists' hold on our justice system; then, our resources can be used to help *real* victims.

14. One thing, though
from the article: "After a series of interviews and a review of the physical evidence, investigators met with representatives for District Attorney Mark Hurlbert and concluded they had enough evidence for the felony sexual assault count, the sheriff's office said in a statement."

If they've got physical evidence, it's a whole different ballgame, right?

Be that as it may, I really hope the truth comes out.

15. Excuse me?
Militant feminist's hold on our justice system? Do you realize how hard it is to get a rape conviction in a case where the woman was truly raped? What a steaming pile of mysoginistic bullshit. You seem to be setting this up to be a trumped up charge without knowing a damn thing about it. There are lots of "nice" guys out there that are users and abusers when no one is looking.

19. "sexual misconduct" was so far the allegation
with 2 hotel employees providing information to police. So you have, 3 hotel employees, and 1 $130M basketball player with an multi-million dollar arm in need of rehab so far involved. We'll see what comes out.

And it's not misogynistic bullshit to doubt stories of abuse regarding sports figures. So far, the fan feedback that I've seen, more *women* think the accuser just wants money and the men are tougher on Kobe, if the charges are substantiated.

But, that's not to say there isn't anything to the charges. This could be the one hotel employee that Kobe sexually misconducted with, with his one strong arm.

21. this is strange..
a warrant was issued before the DA decided on pressing charges or not?

Physical evidence can be anything from a scratch to semen collected and it's really shitty the police have handled the things this way before getting the DA involved. To make the statements they have about the so called evidence without a decision on whether to arrest is outlandish. I would hope we don't forget a suspect does have some rights and considered innocent until proven guilty.

My gut feeling is he's being setup.. If it ends up true I will be shocked more than I ever have been in my life - I just don't see Kobe doing something that stupid or violent.
