I like the stuff, but it's getting expensive to buy.

I was making it last year but I lost my recipe so I hope others will chime in. Most of the ones on line call for cinnamon or raisins and coconut which I don't like.

If I recall mine had whole oats, flax seed, sliced almonds, pecans, and it seems like there was either some rice crispy type processed cereal or flakes?

then it was honey and butter (and brown sugar too?) heated and mixed (pinch of salt, vanilla) poured over the dry stuff, and mixed well - then bake it at a low temp (275-300?) for half to 3/4 of an hour, stirring every now and then

granola may have whole grains and seeds but it sure as hell ain't healthy:rofl:

3. Sawdust and Karo syrup.
I hate granola. I think the sawdust/Karo mix would be tastier.

4. I make mine by ...
1. Toasting rolled grain: about 5 cups of rolled oats, rye, wheat in any combination you want. If you're using oats, the "old fashioned" sort work better than the "quick" kind.
2. Lightly toasting nuts: about 1 cup, any kind you want. I usually use cashews pieces. If using almonds, the sliced toasts up better than whole.
3. In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup of honey with any seasonings you want. Ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom or whatever combination you like.
4. Add to the toasting grains anything else you want that will toast quickly: this could be about 1/2 a cup of non-sweetened dried coconut, flax meal, wheat germ, etc.
5. Mix the hot toasted grains and nuts into the honey and spices, coating evenly.
6. Spread mixture on baking sheet. Toast in oven until dry.
7. Cool mixture.
8. Add 1 1/2 cups dried fruit, cut small if the pieces are too large. Raisins or dried cranberries won't need cutting. Dried apples or apricots will.
9. I also add puffed millet or rice, about 2 cups. This is optional.

I do all the "toasting" in the oven at about 375. You could probably substitute rice syrup or agave nectar for the honey. If you want sunflower seeds, they won't need to be toasted. Just add them into the mixture with the hot grain, before the final baking.
