I'm a bit odd, so maybe not someone who would be a great commentator on it, but I know Coraline is in the selection of movies I've started amassing for my son.

It's written for ages 9-12 so you'd need to read it to your 5 year old but reading to children is always lovely. :)

Dropkid has been a MASSIVE Tim Burton type stuff fan since she could walk. I think the stuff is okay, she LOVES it. Nightmare before xmas and corpse bride get watched at least once a week, Beetlejuice and others at least once a month, along with Coraline and other creepy-ish movies with a Tim Burton influence. Neil Gaiman (Coraline writer) doesn't dumb shit down or niceify it in his kids books, and kids just gobble it up. I remember when I was a kid that cartoons had bad guys, as did books and movies, and I couldn't get enough of them, they were just more engaging. Now the spineless pap being spoonfed to our kids is enough to make me vomit, not a bad guy in sight!

If your daughter likes the movie, she likes it! Dropkid is also a huge zombie/werewolf/vampire movie fan (has been since she was 4-5), has never had nightmares.

7. I loved that movie and have been wanting to watch it again

Has she watched "My Neighbor Totoro" and the other films by Hayao Miyazki? My son (now 16) and I have been great fans ever since someone at his preschool recommended "Totoro" to us.
