It was a spaghetti western mystery whodunnit. She was a can-can girl. She spoke her lines flawlessly, had the audience laughing and giggling, and in the end garnered many votes as to whodunnit. We were given ballots to vote for who we thought dunnit, and the First Place winner was to win a numbered western print from a famous artist. After much hullabaloo the name was read and the winner was my nephew Austin! He's a fairly shy and geeky 17 year old with mild Cerebral Palsey from a premature birth but for the most part he's a normal kid and a very capable person.
He was escorted to the stage by two very pretty young ladies in costume and turned ten shades of red going up to the play's director to get his print. Big cheers, shouts of Austin!! Austin!!, flasbulbs going off... when he was escorted back to where we were sitting, all he could say was "I'm shaking! I'm shaking! He's currently in negotiations with his to hang it in the place of honor.
I'm very proud of my wife. This spring she auditioned and won a speaking part in My Fair Lady. Before MFL opened, she was already going to two rehearsals per day, some of them both dress rehearsals. MFL ended a week ago yesterday, and then rehearsals ramped up this last week.
She played her role perfectly. We'll be donating to the Theater Society soon, and her place there will be cemented. Then I will be joining her. She thinks that IF I work on it enough, I can steal the starring role in The King and I next spring.
I digress. This started out as, and should end as, a statement about how PROUD I am of my wife for putting herself out there. She's played parts in Cinderella, My Fair Lady, Deal Me Dead, and her auditioning for the next performance is not in question.
Not bad for a woman who just turned 63 huh? When I can dig up a pic of her and the cast and link to it I'll post it here.
I'm so fucking proud of her.
