I swear to God, I JUST filled the box with fresh, clean liter and within TWO minutes, Esther the cat jumps in and does her business. :grr:

Damn cat. Can't even give me 5 mins of a clean box?!

3. The Cats' Book of Life
The Cats' Book of Life also directs them to stand at the door meowing to be let out and when it is opened, to reconsider.

4. Their way of saying
"You know, I may seem like a brat about this, but really I'm not. I wait til 5 every day just to see if you would consider taking care of my very basest of needs as a captive indoor PET. The least you could do is move out of my way when the box is prepared so I can do my very important, long-detained business. Thank you very much. Excuse me."

5. Yes
It's in the charter. As well, they are required to sit in any area that's just been mopped and to scurry under the sheets as you are making the bed. If they do not perform these behaviors they are subject to much swats and hissing from their fellow felines.

6. Chaucer stands there doing the potty dance while you change the litter.
If a cat could "pinch" I swear he'd be doing that too.

9. My cat prefers her litter box in the basement.
That way, she can run up and down the stairs while the box is being changed. Then, of course, she has to use it immediately.

Do you mind if I borrow it the next time a stray comes to our back door?

7. Yes. They have to "validate" it.
After that they can resume regular usage.

12. that's my thought on it as well
My roommate's cat, who has her own literbox, uses Esther's literbox just as much as she uses her own. So I think Esther feels she has to jump right in when it's fresh to leave her mark right away.

10. Four cats
four litter boxes. One kitty doesn't wait for all boxes to be cleaned out -- she's using the first one while I'm cleaning the second, third... So my question is this: do I go back and clean the first one out again?

22. Me too, several litterboxes
And yes, they do that, one in particular hovers while I'm changing the first one, then when I turn to the next, he immediately pops into the first and proceeds to let go of a really really malodorous present, which he then covers by scattering the new litter about 4 feet in ALL directions. While I'm looking at him!! And this is a covered litter-box - so I have no clue how he manages to defy the law of physics, but he sure as heck does, I've seen it. So now I have more scooping, and more cleaning up and sweeping.

Well, it's easier than when I cleaned a bathroom that 6 male humans shared. That's all I can say on THAT topic.

30. That's alot of work.
We have two litter boxes. One is on the main floor and the other is upstairs where nobody spends much time. Of course, they prefer the one on the main floor so they can stink it up good.

32. That's what the two cats here do
I have my cat, who has her own literbox, and the roommate has a cat, whom also has her own box. Instead they both choose to use the box I have. I swear they battle over it too. One cat will use it, then the other will come along, smell it, cover up the first cat's business, and then go on top of it. Then the first cat comes back... rinse and repeat.

I guess I should be glad he doesn't do it when it's not pristine.

14. Yeah, it's right after the rule that says all hairballs are to be yakked right next to the bed.
Bonus points are awarded if the hairball is deposited exactly where the human plants his feet when exiting the bed in the middle of the night. :eyes:

15. I'm a rookie when it comes to cats.
At 48, the almost 2 y/o Tabby/Manx/Maine Coon, is the first cat I've ever cohabited with. At what age does the 'yakking' up hairballs begin and does the every-other-day brushing he receives, help?

17. Mine are both long haired Tuxedos.
The male is a lot furrier than the female (and about twice as big) so he needs to be brushed fairly often or the hairball issue gets worse. The female gets brushed less often (she doesn't really like it whereas he loves it) and her hairball issues are pretty light.

IIRC they started producing hairballs after they were about six months. The other thing I've found that will make them yak is changing their diet or when somebody gives them "people" food. I sometimes put a little chicken meat in their food, but generally just let them eat dry. I never give them wet food as that almost always gives them the runs.

Yours sounds like a cutie BTW. You need to post some pix. :)

24. So far, no hairballs
I guess I have something to look forward to. heh

I hear ya on the sensitive digestive systems - same issue here. We have to be very careful with our Manx's diet. When he was a little guy, he couldn't eat any sort of canned food. I ended up making up and freezing batches of fish, chicken, liver, etc... mixed with rice and a few peas. He tolerates canned food now as long as it's not the type that has sauce in it, but he still loves mom's cooking best.

He is a pretty handsome fella; I'll post some photos soon.

I love the Tuxedos - they always look ready to party. :D

As soon as the bed is cleaned and smells wonderful, a cat will jump on it and sleep on every single space of it.
