Just joined Netflix - Give me some movie recommendations!
Obscure is good, foreign is good, as long as they're great movies. I've seen a bunch of movies, I've already reviewed over 440 of them on the site, but not as many as some, so I've probably missed quite a bit.

Watcha got to recommend? :)

3. Ca commence aujourd'hui....
...Post coitum, Venus Beauty Insitute, Almodovar films, Sous le Sable/Under the Sand, Truffaut films, Jean-Luc Godard, Jeanne la Pucelle and other Rivette films, Read My Lips....

...but if you've reviewed 440 of them (!), doubt if you've missed any of these.

10. My top 4 recommendations and a brief review of each
1. The Seventh Seal (1955 or so). An examination of atheism vs the possibility of an afterlife. Pretty much swept the Oscars that year. Set in medieval Sweden. Black and White. English subtitles. Must be watched more than once to get the gist.

2. The Earthling (1980 or so). One of William Holden's last films. A survivalist type of flick set in wild Australia. Existentialist to the max. Little known film.

3. Breaker Morant (1980 or so). Story based on a case of martial justice in South Africa during the Boer War in South Africa. Critically acclaimed film. A man's film that delves into the core of The Anglo-Saxon Empire and culture.

4. The Truman Show (1996 or so). Starring Jim Carrey. An examination of the way we accept the world for what it is without examining certain assumptions. Critically acclaimed film.
