Casting Game of Thrones season 2 (A Clash of Kings)
the major roles that will be added for season 2 include: Stannis Baratheon, Melisandre the Red Priestess, Davos Seaworth, Balon Greyjoy, Brienne of Tarth and Jaqen H'gar. If I left anybody out, let me know.

Mark Strong would have been perfect for Stannis, but he is probably too big of a star for HBO to afford now that he was in Green Lantern...but, damn, he's got the receding hairline and intense dark eyes.

Supposedly, Tricia (6) Helfer from Battlestar Galactica was up for the role of Cersei before it went to Lena Headey. She could be good for Melisandre? We already know she wears red pretty well:

The Onion knight - one of my favorite characters.... Davos Seaworth. Gary Oldman might have been good, but he's too big a star.

Balon Greyjoy - Requires an intense actor who commands the screen. Any ideas? Another role Gary Oldman could have owned, but too big a star.

Brienne the Beauty - obviously requires a muscular and unattractive woman over 6 feet tall - precludes most of Hollywood. I was thinking WNBA star, but basketball players are typically too slender. Maybe a woman from the MMA (found Gabrielle Garcia, listed between 6'2" and 6'5", depending on the source)

and, one of my favorites... Jaqen H'gar... no friggin clue on playing a guy with red hair on one side, grey on the other.

1. I don't know, but I am certain they will do the absolutely correct thing
I'm continually amazed at how well they cast season one, and I'm still reading the books. Arya in particular strikes me as just such perfect casting. Well, and of course Tyrion. And everyone else.

So I have faith, much faith.

I'm reading as slowly as I possibly can so that maybe it will take me years and years before I finish.

2. I thought Sean Bean was excellent as Ned Stark
and Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon...(I have not seen the whole series yet, as my wife didn't want to pay for 3 months of HBO)

3. Gary Oldman is listed as 5'10", and I'm not sure he has the right height and
Build for some of these characters. But I don't know which ones are supposed to be warriors versus statesmen.

I haven't read the books, but I thoroughly enjoyed season 1. I keep wondering about what is going to happen to some of these characters. I wonder if Ned's oldest daughter will be able to keep menses and menarche hidden so she doesn't have to marry that twit any time soon.

4. Updated - 6'3" Gwendoline Christie to play Brienne
She needs to bulk up to pull it off, though. However, GRRM's comment in his blog seems to indicate she has...

5. I've seen rumors floating around about Christopher Eccleston as Stannis
A few entertainment websites are reporting them. I'll link it when I can get to a real computer vs my Droid. I'd like it to be true, he's a very good actor.

6. He would be really good

7. Since Stannis' personality is a complete 180 from Robert & Renly
I think it could work having him look different:

I've never seen him on screen, so I don't know if he can pull off the intense, serious Stannis or not.

8. Well, Renly looks a bit different from the books and the actor playing him...
....looks like he has had his nose broken (still attractive, but not in the way the books describe him).

At the very least Eccleston appears a little younger than Robert and older than Renly, so that's something.

10. True
Renly is supposed to be dashingly handsome - but, i don't think the actor playing Loras is all that handsome, either. However, most of the time, I'm a terrible judge about what's attractive in a man.
