SIMBA BIT ME!!!!!
ARRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

Taking a break from writing a paper, I was taking a lovely nap with the kitties. Monty had assumed his usual position at my feet, while Simba availed himself of the opportunity to crawl under the covers and lie close to me. I guess he felt threatened when I turned over, because he leapt out from under the covers and off the bed, and I felt a sharp pain. At first I thought he had just jumped hard on my calf, but when I looked at my leg I discovered he had bitten me! I have a 50-cent piece-sized area of bruising and swelling, not to mention 4 puncture wounds. I hobbled downstairs and cleansed the wound with alcohol, then covered it with gauze and cloth tape. Also took some ibuprofen.

I can't yell at him; he's innocent and doesn't understand. But it HURTS!!! Yes, he's had his rabies shots for this year (they stay indoors anyway). The RASCAL!!

1. Watch out!!
Cat bites get infected as hell easily. I know a woman who nearly lost her hand from a small bite from her old cat.

3. Quit Using Sardines As A Pen
Fish sticks are far easier to hold and the ketchup gives your paper "color."

7. The cat is too cute to punish or get mad at.

8. Oh, you can't punish animals
Even if I wanted to, I wouldn't. Two seconds later he was purring and rubbing up against me. He's a darling cat; he's always sitting on our laps and follows us everywhere. He's just very skittish and jumpy, and I guess I zigged when he thought I was going to zag!

9. What a ferocious looking beast!
Give him 50 pets and a kiss on the nose from me. :-) On second thought, hold off of that kiss, he might still be P.O.ed. :-)

10. You might consider going for antibiotics
Just be sure the doctor understands the difference between frightened cat awakened by human error and vicious cat. Don't want the puddy tat to go away to reform school.

Seriously, that could get badly infected and a leg doesn't always heal the best. Take care of yourself.

13. See a doctor immediately! I got badly bitten by a neighbor's cat that
I was looking after last summer and it was a dilly of a bite.

You need antibiotics. But I have to warn you that your doctor is probably obligated to report the bite to animal control and they will make you carefully watch your cat for ten days.

The reason for that is that those rabies shots we give our animals every year are only 80% effective, something the powers that be never tell us unless they are forced to.

As for cat bites, it doesn't necessarily mean that they were angry or frightened. Sometimes, some cats simply have a very strong bite reaction... Especially the better hunters.

That said, most cats will not bite hard enought to leave deep puncture wounds.
