I no longer like driving...
Yesterday I took Paul to the store (since he can't drive after his procedure the other day). On the way there a car in the next lane screeched to a halt, horn blaring. I went into full panic mode. I couldn't breathe and didn't know what to do. I kept expecting something to come flying through the windshield.

Paul, ever the logical one, reminded me that I was in a fairly scary car accident and it traumatized me so I have to expect things like this.

I hate getting behind the wheel now.

1. That happened to me, once, as well.
I was broadsided by a guy who was speeding and ran a red light. I ended up facing in the wrong direction on the cross street. I was terrified to drive after that, kept expecting another car would come out of nowhere. I was getting rides to work until my father made me get behind the wheel again. I remember shaking and whimpering the whole way there. ;(

It took a lot of time, but I did get over it, though I have gone through periods where it's been really hard for me to drive. It's been the doing it that helped me, starting with shorter trips that I was more comfortable with. If it's possible, you might consider a defensive driving course to build your confidence and get some experience in a safe setting. Good luck with this. I really do understand...

2. Car accidents are a major cause of PTSD. I feel your pain, and ITA.

I wish I lived somewhere I could get along without a car.

3. I understand that
I was in two bad accidents back in 1993/1994. I only drove locally for 15 years or so and any road trips someone had to come with me. I finally got over that just last year, and made a 200 mile road trip all by myself.

It will take time.
