I didn't even know he was still alive. I remember his stuff back in the late 60s. I think Zappa arranged to get him recorded. Insane stuff.

2. Zappa did help him, and his first album was on Zappa's Bizarre/Straight label, but...

...in later years, when Larry thought he was going to have a "recording career," and Zappa didn;t carry the burden of that, he went off to make a couple of albums on Rhino Records, one of which had a song called "Frank" if memory serves me correctly, which basically dissed Zappa for turning his back on him.

Other than Captain Beefheart, the whole Bizarre/Straight experiment was a noble failure...Frank had Fischer, the GTOs, and I believe one album from Tim Buckley, plus other assorted freaks, but the record-buying public was less interested in Franks' sideshow than in Frank himself.
