Jerry Reed, Early Morning Rain
An underappreciated talent, an awesome guitarist.

And a nice nice song.

1. Sorry, that version is ruined by all the orchestration.

Ian and Sylvia nailed that song:

Just two fine voices, a bass, some light percussion and a couple of acoustic guitars.

Jerry did a great job on the vocals, too bad all the strings and crap ruined the track, for me at least.

6. I like that a lot.
But I'm always partial to bluegrass, and Vassar's fiddle work is excellent, as always.

2. Jerry Reed is an under-rated talent, I agree.
The era he did this tune did tend to over orchestrate songs. Still, there are some fine examples of his talent still around.

4. I like Jerry Reed
but agree with some of the other comments that that version is a bit over-orchestrated.

I like Dylan's version :): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM4D-Xobs5I

5. That Dylan version is excellent.
Honestly, as a Dylan fan I am ashamed to admit I never even knew he covered that song. But since it's on "Self Portrait", an album that has been pretty universally bashed, and one I don't own, it's not a big surprise I have never heard it before. Dylan's harmonica really adds a lot to so many of his songs including this one.
