1. I don't know how they're going to do it
Book Two begins the very next day, but the actors playing the youngest (Bran, Arya, Rickon) are not going to be able to not age.

And especially with Arya having to pretend being a boy! I don't know how they'll do that.

IMHO they wasted too much time in tonight's episode with non-important scenes, unfortunately. Only the last two scenes redeemed the whole episode.

2. Yeah, the last scene was killer

4. Danny and her clever little new pets ROCK. I thought that scene was done very well indeed.
The screaming sound we heard as the shot went to black sent chills down my spine!

6. I had the same reaction. And I was curious to see how realistic the new little pets would be
I thought they did a great job with them.

10. I hope they aren't waiting so long to film them
Maybe they're working on them already.

I just about screamed last night at the part with Khaleesi and the dragons, I loved it so much!!

23. They've started filming season 2 recently
I'm sure it will take at least a few months of actual filming, then months more for re-shoots/edits/special effects.

25. I figured
really didn't seem to me like they'd be dumb enough to wait til all the kids are a year older to film the next season.

20. However, A Game of Thrones takes place over many months
so, while the kids were aging more slowly IRL over the few months it took to film the show, they'll actually be catching up to the timeline in the books.

5. Heehee! Except that none of the Bushes are as sympathetic as Tyrion Lannister.
Joffrey, that nasty little narcissistic prick, can't die off quickly enough. Joffrey has a misogynistic streak too -- ignoring his mother's wishes concerning Ned Stark and acting like a brat when Arya defended the butcher's boy.

19. nah, Tywin & Tyrion are too competent to be Bushes
and Cersei is too smart & too pretty... and, at least Jaime rides into battle, unlike a certain other Bush.

Tywin is a hard-ass drill sergeant type. I picture W as more of a mafia godfather type

9.  Book 2 SPOILER; Book 2 SPOILER; Book 2 SPOILER.
I'm near the end of Book 2, and I just finished reading that scene between Cat and Jaime.

Things are gonna get screwed up.

13. Isn't it interesting how the screenplay has telescoped the plot?
That conversation between Jaime and Catelyn happens in the show at the same time that Danerys (sp?) gets her dragons (very, very well done!). In the books they're quite a bit apart.

Not a criticism but those writers' meetings must ave been interesting.

14. The thing is...(more SPOILERS)...
...when they actually DO have that conversation in Book 2, the dynamic is a helluva lot different. It ain't just about Ned's head anymore, or her daughters captive and missing, but also the thing that Theon did. In fact it's that thing that sends her over the edge. And at the end of the scene she doesn't drop a rock, but instead asks for a sword.

The writers are taking a different course...hopefully to the original destination...but it's different.

15. Those who have read books and seen the show: about Renly
I'm just starting book 3, and I don't recall reading anything about Renly having a gay lover. Seems like that was invented for the show.

And I get the impression (I don't know this so no spoiler, just conjecture) that we're not done with Renly yet.

17. I believe it was hinted at a few times in the books (spoilers)
though, it was not discussed openly. (I just started A Clash of Kings for the second time)

I think there is a scene with Cersei threatening Renly with telling the world about him & Loras Tyrell (the Knight of Flowers), but my memory could be fuzzy on that.

Plus, Renly's kingsguard is called The Rainbow Guard...

18. If it was in Book 1, it went right over my head.
In Book 2, they kind of talk about how he ain't really a family man.

And having now seen the scenes in the TV show, I could easily read his being gay into it.

21. There are things in the book that you have to read into
and the gay subplot is one of them.

Tiny spoiler: Renly's wife is still a virgin. Like even though she's hella hot he hasn't tapped that. He's too busy with other things.End spoiler.

26. It's in the books, just in hints and innuendo from other characters
Renly and Loras

It comes across in the books as one of those 'secrets' that everybody knows, but doesn't really care much about, other than a source of amusement.

35. Yes, I suppose that's it. I was aware of it, with his descriptions
and the Rainbow Guard, but I guess it seemed irrelevant (since so many other Lord's can't seem to produce sons either),
and so I wondered if they were going somewhere else with it.

24. Season 2 - casting Stannis & Melisandre
Melisandre is supposed to be tall & beautiful. Supposedly, Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) was in the running to play Cersei and is a fan of the books... would she come aboard to play the Red Priestess?

Any other ideas there?

I'm guessing for Stannis they'll cast a relatively unknown British actor. (They may do that for Melisandre, too)

winter-is-coming.net has some interesting ideas there, including Rufus Sewell...

30. Totally wrong for that part.
Edited on Mon Jun-20-11 08:13 PM by Chan790
Stannis is plain, toilet-seat bald, hard-featured, dour, square-faced, severe and generally considered to be mildly unattractive. A man who acts like every thing in the world is a slight against him, a man who views life as designed solely to oppress and thwart him. Think about it, he's the legitimate heir to the throne...and nobody takes him seriously.

Also, 15 years too old for the part. Stannis is 34. even if you age him up like the rest of the cast, he's not a day over 40.

31. agreed
Rickman is too old to play Stannis... the first guy (Mark Strong) pictured in the link I posted above is perfect physically & attitude-wise, judging from the picture. However, he is more of a movie star, so may not be available.

Rickman is also too big a star to do an American TV series, though I am sure he could play a lot of roles in A Game of Thrones if he wanted (Balon Greyjoy - Theon's father?)

Nobody but nobody wants Stannis to win.

I loved the casting of whatsisname for Lord Frey though.
