Tickled
After years of being unable to emit more than breathy squawks whenever I tried to sing, I have finally learned how to make musical-ish sounds with my voice with the help of how-to-sing tutorials on the Internets, and even though I know I’ll never be a singer, I am thrilled to tears. Now I can join in on family singalongs, which I’ve always wanted to do, and sing in the shower without my husband calling out, “Hey, hon! You okay?”

I made a home recording of me singing (with my uke to help me stay in tune). It’s not good singing, and it’s kind of shaky because I was nervous and concentrating desperately hard on every single note, but I am going to save the recording in case I someday can only squawk again and want to remember the time I sort of sang.

If anyone would like to hear the recording: http://www23.zippyshare.com/v/18168547/file.html

When I come down from my high, I am going to feel embarrassed for having posted the link, but right now I am too elated for that. I feel so normal now!

3. Thanks! I feel encouraged.
Even if I never get any better, I'll know I've come a long way. :-)

2. That's inspiring, frogmarch!
How about sharing a tutorial link or two?
I like singing in the shower, but would like to sing better...and it would be fun to learn to harmoize with another.
Will your family be surprised?

4. My favorite link
is this one: http://www.vocalist.org.uk/voicetraining.html

The info at the links there gave me some good basic pointers to work with. My main obstacle was not knowing how to breathe correctly. Even my speaking voice was odd.

My family will be stunned. I hope that I've improved even more by the time my kids and grandkids come to visit this summer. Oh, and I just learned I'm going to become a great-grandmother next fall. I would love to finally be able to sing one of my babies a lullaby. :-)
