I like the idea phase.
I like the finished product.

All that shit in the middle drives me nuts.

1. Yes indeed.
My ex and I bought a circa 1865 home near St Louis MO about 15 years ago. It was in horrible condition and we, in our ignorance, thought that it would just be sooooo simple to fix it up, we had all these grandiose ideas and some spare cash at the time. Well, we lived with 1 bathroom (we have 5 boys) and a wet bar as a kitchen for 6 months before I tossed in the towel and moved back to our old home in Wyoming.

"Home improvement"?? Yep, at the cost of the destruction of a lot else. Sheesh. Good luck to you, really.

2. I just did a glass tile backsplash in the kitchen.
It looks wonderful now (just have to seal the grout and put up the trim), but getting to this point was about as relaxing as walking across hot coals while being chased by a swarm of Africanized honey bees.

3. Yep
I hear that. In my case, it was a swarm of Africanized honey bees on meth and acid.

Oh, but the hot coals - they were there!

Hey, congrats on getting it done, really. The aggravation is almighty but the satisfaction of walking in and seeing it done - priceless. :)

4. OMG, yes.
It is impossible to get skilled people to show up and to do a good job. It takes months and months from estimate to completion.

Right now, we have been waiting for two months for the guy to show up just to measure our pool for a new liner. We first contacted them in April. Looks like no pool this year and it has been so damn hot.

I want to remodel a powder room (the toilet is shot) and really dread having to go through all the mess and all the aggravation.

I will have the footer, block, electric, and plumbing done and I will do the rest. A 10 day challenge to get it under roof.
