These models are plus size? How about these models are NORMAL!!!

I'm so fricking tired of fashion calling normal size women "PLUS" size. Like actually having a healthy body weight and size is somehow a wretched thing to be. How about none of these 3 very beautiful women will provbably never die of an eating disorder like Anorexia or Bulemia. How about these 3 stunning models represent what the rest of the world can actually achieve in weight size. How about we call these excessively slim size models as "MINUS" size instead.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/03/vogue-italia-plus-size_n_870739.html

Always ready to up the body image ante, Vogue Italia's June issue celebrates curvy models, with a trio of plus-sized beauties posing for the cover. Tara Lynn, Candice Huffine and Robyn Lawley lean over plates of spaghetti in their lingerie, and inside, Marquita Pring is added to the mix for Steven Meisel's lens.

Your preference for B-cups has been duly noted. However, there is nothing wrong with these women's bodies. Nude, clothed, wearing undergarments that support their breasts or not.

22. These women look like they would FEEL good to snuggle up with.
So, here's an interesting psychoanalytic theory (not mine but maybe there's something to it). Women like these--soft, voluptuous, strong looking women in the sense that they look solid and self-possessed, create a sense of wanting to be taken in and taken careof in a fundamental way that makes people feel a desire to be childlike, to be held and snuggled and fed (yes, like that). If you are embarrassed by that feeling or have countermanding feelings that tell you that it's important to be on guard or "adult" and that you are wrong to feel that way, then you might find these women threatening and unappealing in reaction to that.

Children love a snuggly warm lap and arms without reservation. And this isn't to diss anyone else's body type, btw. But heck, we zaftig babes feel gooooood. And these women look beautiful.

33. You know, that's an interesting outlook
Men, and women too, probably don't even recognize that in themselves, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to be taken care of. It's a basic human need.

I like this theory, it makes total sense.

37. maybe and yet i don't think the attraction is about sleeping with mama...
Edited on Fri Jun-03-11 10:47 PM by pitohui
i had an involvement when young w. a woman who looked much like the one in the middle, and i can't believe that it was about wanting to be taken care of in a fundamental way or wanting to be a child!

first off, the woman was a sociopath, and the situations she put me into were about danger, risk, excitement, S/M -- NOTHING about big fat mama wanting to take care of me, not that i wanted to be fussed over anyway, leave that mama crap to the diaper fetish guys

i actually think the reason most people are un-attracted to fat women is precisely BECAUSE you're not sexually attracted to your mama, think about what you're saying

a beautiful thickset young woman can be very, very sexual but once she tries to be your mama, the sexuality is gone, and she is just a fat girl -- she is no longer attractive

you are trying to be kind but think about what you're saying..."they look so comfortable," they look like a mama gonna take care of baby....UGH, that's just a turn-off

a big beautiful woman is sexy if she's powerful and dangerous

if she's just another cow popping out babies, she is not sexy or attractive, she's just another sad example of what you don't wanna be or what you don't wanna be trapped by

don't try to be "comfortable" if you're a big woman, try to be powerful, THAT'S what's sexy -- admittedly this is a woman's view, i have no idea of a man's take on it

74. Nonono, you misunderstand.
I'm not talking about an adult's perspective, but a holdover from infancy. Sexuality and one's feelings about it do begin in infancy, but as body awareness, comfort, pleasure, security, etc., all of which play into successful sexuality. Some people get conflicted about getting that relaxed and hedonistic and psychologically naked.

The old adage about wanting to sleep with Mom is an oversimplification of the idea that a small child's world involves little frame of reference except the parents, so all good feeling is associated with those people. Once body control is mastered then the self becomes a point of involvement--"Hey! When I do that it feels GOOD!" Then when the rest of the world gets cross-wired with sexuality it comes out in all sorts of wild and wonderful ways.

I agree that a powerful woman is beautiful and exciting, but your comments about cows and traps and the need to be powerful is a perspective not everyone shares.

Edited on Sat Jun-04-11 07:54 AM by City of Mills
But I'm not a fan of the modeling industry overall. Where are the beautiful, natural "real" women? I like crow's feet and laugh lines, no makeup etc...'flawless' women look like aliens or blowup dolls to me.

Not unexpectedly, lots of replies here describing petite or athletic women as "anorexic". These particular models look plus-size to me, but thats a dumb label to begin with, about as accurate and useful as women's clothing sizes. This is from my own perspective - I'm a short, thin guy and find myself attracted to women smaller than me. It's just a general preference.

Regardless of physical body size, the traits that always attract me are intelligence, compassion and self-confidence (not arrogance!).

Not a great deal, but I think some of it comes from the lack of noticeable muscle definition. Admittedly I take part in a martial art that is heavy on flexibility and cardiovascular work so even those women who aren't a size 0 or 2 tend to have defined muscles and just have a physical presence that these women lack in these pictures.

Obviously others disagree with me and I would stress that I wouldn't say these women are at an particularly unhealthy weight. I just tend to be more physically attracted to women who at least look like they are physically active. To each their own.

This is just for starters - http://babyfit.sparkpeople.com/articles.asp?id=894 :

"risk of excessive postpartum weight retention, low birth weight infant, large birth weight infant, and ... risk of chronic disease as an adult."

That doesnt begin to talk about increased risk of pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes

36. In the world of models, they would be considered plus-size.
I'm guessing that models are size 0-2, maybe a 4 at the most. So yes, for models this is plus-size. But I find it insulting that they use this word for them because in the real world, this is normal sized. It is not plus, it does not require massive dieting/starving, etc. and when women in the real world see the word plus-sized, they will think they are fat and need to lose weight.

49. Size 8 is considered "plus size"
I wear a size 8 and my weight and BMI are all in the recommended healthy range for my height. So yeah, mainstream high fashion models are not healthy and not normal. These women look to be about size 12 or 14 and they're probably slightly overweight from a clinical point of view but that's got to be healthier than the regular models who are SEVERELY underweight

52. Normal = "The usual condition" M. Webster
I'm sorry but after driving from San Jose, Ca to Memphis, down to N.O. and back through Tucson, it is my observation that the "Normal" American (male and female) more closely resembles Rush Limpballs. It's a sad situation. I don't remember it being this way as I was growing up. I attribute most of it to the McDonaldization of our food supply. Prior to McD's, there wasn't really a lot of pre-processed Frankinfood available. Mom went to the grocer, bought mostly farm products, brought it home and cooked dinner. Of course, at that time, this was part of Mom's job description. About the same time MickD emerged, mom had to go get a paying job cause pop no longer earned enough to allow her to stay home.

Now, the "Super"markets are filled with row after row of pre processed, high fructose corn syrup crap with lots of calories but very little actual nutritional value and mom is much more likely to get a box of crap and bring it home and nuke it. Actual cooking is becoming such a dying art that it has achieved an almost cult status called the "slow food movement".

On a trip to Costa Rica a few years ago, One thing that really got my attention was that "normal" folks, for the most part, looked, well, normal. The massive, morbid obesity you see in this country simply was the exception, not the rule. Sad.

69. As people become fatter and fatter what is "normal" changes
Just like cars..

Trucks keep getting bigger and bigger (Even though you can still haul the same 4x8 sheet of drywall in the bed :eyes:

So now the "normal" truck today would have looked like a jacked up monster in the 80's...

Same thing with small cars.

So now everyone walking around at 200+, of course a 160lb woman is going to be the new "normal"

78. That seems to be true.
People are evolved to survive on far fewer calories than the average American eats and with a lot less body fat. However attractive these women appear (quite a bit) they may still be overweight from a medical point of view.

81. Remember, the camera adds 10 pounds.
Also, I think we need to distinguish the difference between Plus Size MODELS and Plus Size WOMEN - obviously, Plus Size Models are probably around size 8-12, whereas Plus Size women would probably start at size 14 and above.

That's a healthy weight.

My last ex was plus-sized. Very fun in the sack.

73. I think they look gorgeous. If I was a guy, I'd prefer that look to the skinnies.
But full disclosure: I am a skinny chick. 6'1" 140 lbs and I wear a Size 4. With women like that considered "normal" it just makes it that much harder for me to go clothes shopping!
