6. The movie is a lot of fun.
Clifton Webb plays Sousa in a highly fictionalized telling of his career, from the Marine Corps Band to international celebrity. He wanted only to write love songs ("My Heart Is A Weeping Willow") until he played one of his ballads in march time and the rest is Hollywood history.

8. I think his stuff is brilliant. My wife doesn't care for him.
Oddly enough, it's the same way with Negativland. :)

17. I think negativland takes a special kind of listener,
usually an intellectual or at least a band-geek }(

11. I liked him when he was in The Mamas and the Papas.
His solo career was a disappointment.

12. John Phillip Sousa
Probobly the best composer of that genre...followed closely by Kenneth J Alford (real name Frederick Joseph Ricketts)!

Stars and Stripes Forever by Sousa stills sends chills up my spine when I hear it live.

15. Reminds me of my grandfather who was a musician,
and supposedly a drum major, so once in a blue moon I get a kick out of hearing Sousa marches. Although my grandfather mostly played the banjo, so it doesn't translate very well.
