...a really dumb question but...what exactly is "Kicked and Recommended"?
...don't laugh...and I've been reading/posting on DU for about a year.

But, I still don't understand the K & R.

So is the "R" part, just hitting the Recommended link?

And then what is the "K" part? Am I "Kicking" by "Recommending"?

...I glanced at the FAQs and did a search but didn't find anything.

Anyone?

1. Kicking is kicking someone when they're down around here
Recommending is suggesting to other DUers to get their kicks in too

and might I add an LOL

Kicking is when someone responds and the thread returns to the top of that particular forum based on last response time.
Recommend is just below the opening post. Click on it and if it gets enough votes it goes to the greatest page.
Recommend is turned off in the lounge.

3. At the bottom of the OP (Original Post)..
there are two choices. Recommend and unrecommend. Clicking on one of these enables the OP to get recommendations (or not) to get to the Greatest Page.

Kick simply means that if you respond to the OP you automatically kick it up the top of the list in the General Discussion or General Discussion: Presidential forums. Recommendations are not allowed in the DU Lounge. The kick also sends it the Greatest Page if enough people kick an OP.

4. "Kick" or "Kicked" is what happens when Skittles finally get her hands on you.
"Recommend" is what everyone does when they see such an ass-kicking occur.

11. A point about the K *and* R. Also, about the n/t.
An "R" won't save a thread from sinking withOUT the "K" temporarily keeping it up. For some reason, some of our bretheren and sisteren don't want to post in a thread, perhaps to keep their identity separate from the "R", and if there is little or no discussion/posting in the thread, the worthiness of the O.P. and the effort that went into it will be lost to the thread's sinking into oblivion without the posts/kicks.

As for the "n/t" it needs to go in the subject line, not in the Message area. The point is to save time for others by alerting them in the visible Subject line that there is nothing further to see by scrolling down into the post. So it defeats the purpose by putting "n/t" in the Message area and thereby making whoever scroll down anyway.

And "Tweety" is Chris MATTHEWS.
