Ate our way from Uptown, through the French Quarter, and back. Beignets and cafe au lait at Cafe' du Monde Wednesday morning, the whole tourist thing. It was a hoot.
Big Muddy is WAY HIGH! Walked up on the levee by the French market. Looks like (hopefully) they have it more-or-less under control in the Crescent City, but of course other areas have suffered by the opening of flood gates. :-(
Last time I was there was a college road trip from Tuscaloosa in '62. Alabama played Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day. 10-3 Alabama...Roll Tide. :-)
New Year's Eve in the French Quarter was a hell of a party. All you heard was WOO-PIG! and ROLL TIDE! Parties everywhere in the residences in the quarter. "Come on in! Have a drink!" To us, total strangers. :-)
The 'qwahtah' hasn't changed much. Old buildings have bars with different names, but the brick and mortar is the same. The streets are narrower than I remembered, but it was morning and I was stone cold sober. :-)
If you like antiques, you'll be in heaven with a stroll down Rue Royal.
Not as many titty bars on Bourbon as I remember. LaFitte's Blacksmith Shop (bar) is still there.
Just had a fun time in The City That Care Forgot. Y'all come on down!
