So far, I think I like this "MOG" subscription music service.
The other day I played a Shoutcast station in Winamp, and found a few artists I'd forgotten and a few new ones I really liked. One of the new ones (for me, anyway) was Ivy and their song "Undertow." I thought "I'd like to hear that whole album" so I went to TEH GOOGLE to investigate the streaming bitrates for the available subscription services.

Found a good article here: Battle of the Streaming Music Services http://lifehacker.com/5608715/battle-of-the-streaming-music-services

...and they gave a good review to MOG, which has a 256 KBPS bitrate (Rhapsody only offers 128 KBPS, while Napster fluctuates between 128 and 192, depending on the track).

Signed up for the 14 day free trial (they do take your credit card info, which may be a change in policy since the Lifehacker article above first appeared).

Typed in "Ivy," found the "Long Distance" album, and have been playing it (I'm on track 9 right now). Sounds great, no skips or commercials or some of the other things that can plague subscription services or "Internet Radio" stations like Pandora.

I don't know the depth of MOG's catalog when it comes to "heavy hitters" but most of the popular stuff I'd want I already own. I'm basically looking for new stuff, artists who play the kinds of music I like, and this seems like it might be a good place to explore for a while.

Anyway, it's www.mog.com for anyone who wants to check it out.
