Tomorrow we head for N'awlins.
Staying with a friend for three days.
Plan to see the WW II Museum the first day.
French Quarter, Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral, etc. the second day.
Breakfast at Cafe du Monde (beignets and Cafe' au lait).
Thursday we'll ride the St. Charles Ave. streetcar and see the homes in the Garden District.

The last time I was there was for the 1962 Sugar Bowl.
Alabama - Arkansas on New Year's Day. I was a student at Alabama.
10-3 Alabama. Roll Tide.
:-)

A fraternity brother and I went.
We stayed at the Pontalba apartments on Jackson Square.

The oldest apartment complex in the USA.
His great-aunt was an arty, bohemian lady (possibly a beatnik?) who had a flat there. She was kind enough to let us crash on her sofas.
New Years Eve in the Quarter was a night to remember and all we had to do was stagger back to Jackson Square.

Miz t. was there in '68 when she was a consultant with Revlon.

Our English friend has never been to the City That Care Forgot.
I have the smelling salts ready in case the culture shock is too much for her.
;-)

5. We'll leave the lights on for you, then!
They are supposed to have a new 4D movie at the WWII Museum that is pretty good. Be warned, though. The River is high! I took this yesterday:

Sounds like a good plan! :hi:

6. I was politely ushered out of the Upper Pontalba one morning

I'd been at a party there the night before, and, well, you know how it is.

Luckily, I had enough time to grab some breakfast and head out to the Fair Grounds for Jazz Fest.

edit: There are other places to get beignets besides the Monde. Last time, I got mine at the aptly named Cafe Beignet on Royal next to the police station. They even have a gray tabby strolling around!

8. Do lunch at Dooky Chase's. Hang out in the French Market.

See who's playing at the Rock and Bowl.

If you're up for it take a bus tour through the Katrina ravaged places--it's touristy but it will damn well open your eyes.

I'm NOT kidding about Dooky Chase's.

Say hello to my family.
