Does this irritate you?
Edited on Wed May-11-11 01:06 PM by leftyladyfrommo
When I go out onto a news site and hit the button to watch a news video, I have to wait and watch a 30 second advertisement before I can see what I want to see.

I switch it off and go find the news report somewhere else. That irritates the hell out of me.

I quit watch TV because I couldn't stand the ads - not the internet is just one big advertisement.

And e-mail scammers are irritating me today, too. How on earth do they even find me? And how do they think up those scams to begin with. I'm a pet sitter and right now there is some guy (or girl) that is using the company names and e-mails from the membership list at National Association of Professional Petsitters. He sends an e-mail out stating that he is looking for a petsitter to take care of his dog - it's always a long term deal that would make a petsitter a lot of money - if it were real. Then they try and pull that deal where they send a fake cashier's check for too much money and ask the petsitter to deposit it and send them a cashier's check back for the difference.

I'm not sure if that's being flimmed or flammed but its one or the other.

1. It does.
If they want me to watch while I'm at work, they gotta cut the ads.

2. I know
it irks the heck out of me too. I start cleaning up around my desk or doing something else so I don't watch it.

4. Yeah, the fake cashier's check is a scam that
has been around for quite a few years. I wouldn't be surprised if the return address was in Nigeria.

Usually on the news sites there is a button you can click to skip past the ads.

5. Yup, but the worst are the ones that don't let you mute the ad or adjust the volume
if there was any chance I'd let it play and maybe 'hook' me, almost none, they forfeit the chance by removing my ability to mute/adjust the volume. I don't care if they are the only one with the video I'll go without it over being forced to listen to their ads.

6. I never listen to the ads.
As soon as they come on I just get back out. I've got better things to do with my time.

7. Me too. Unless I'm working on another screen and sitting there to mute the commercial, I'm gone.

10. Irritating is not strong enough. I just click off the volume
until it is done if I really feel the need to see the video. If not, I shut it off.

As to that scam, I would be sure to notify that professional organization about this, and let them know you are not happy that they are furnishing your information to scammers. If they want to protect the members, they should have a way to connect clients with their members without giving out the information to people who are running scams. I assume that they are furnishing this information to prospective clients---that or selling your information. Either way, make sure that they are aware of this, and that they notify members that this is a scam, just in case there is someone living under a rock who has not heard of this one.

11. There is a reasonable middle ground.
If websites let you watch all their work for free then the ads are how they make money so they can provide this service to us. I do not do TV at all, tried it for a short time and it was a mess and too expensive and I wasted more time looking for something worth watching than watching anything.

Online if I find something I want to see then a short ad here and there is not bothersome. Compare it to how much the TV bombards you with.

But, I agree with the statements when a web starts up an ad automatically and you are powerless to do anything about it, that website goes BYE-BYE !

I also can't put up with a site that automatically makes noise at me of any kind when I land on it. Those go bye-bye quickly, too.
