Warren Haynes is one of Rolling Stone's 25 greatest guitarists of all time

Warren Haynes is one of Rolling Stone's 25 greatest guitarists of all time. He's played with The Allman Brothers Band, The Dead and his own group, Gov't Mule. This month, Haynes releases his first solo album in 19 years, titled Man in Motion. He tells Weekend Edition Sunday host Liane Hansen that, in the nearly two decades since his last solo outing, Gov't Mule has commanded most of his attention.

1. well that's something.
I imagine Duane Allman is still rated higher, though.

Saw him play several times with Allmans, saw him and Government Mule once in a bar in Mississippi that held about 50 people. Cool.

2. RS got some things right with that list.
They should have had Derek Trucks higher, though.

4. Some are laughable however...
The inclusion of Cobain to this list amuses me. Especially above Jerry Garcia.... Disagree about Hammet and Frusciante too, One trick ponies if you ask me. And BB King? The lesser of the guitar playing Kings. (I'll take Albert myself) Jack White got Cobain'd too, both have to be on every list to make Rolling Stone "With the scene"....And to not have Trey Anastasio from Phish on the list is wrong, way wrong. That guy is GOD......

1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band
3. B.B. King
4 Eric Clapton
5 Robert Johnson
6 Chuck Berry
7 Stevie Ray Vaughan
8 Ry Cooder
9 Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin
10 Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones
11 Kirk Hammett of Metallica
12 Kurt Cobain of Nirvana
13 Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead
14 Jeff Beck
15 Carlos Santana
16 Johnny Ramone of the Ramones
17 Jack White of the White Stripes
18 John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers
19 Richard Thompson
20 James Burton
21 George Harrison
22 Mike Bloomfield
23 Warren Haynes
24 The Edge of U2
25 Freddy King

5. My intent wasn't to reopen the RS25 list debate
but rather to give everyone a heads-up that Warren Haynes has a new album out.

9. Albert King definitely should have been included SOMEWHERE
leaving him off was the most egregious mistake they made when compiling this.

10. No Roy Buchanan? Bad list without him.

And BBKing is way too high.

I'd be happy if the just dropped BB and added Roy.

12. They got Richard Thompson on there
So that's something. But his inclusion makes a couple of exclusions all the more glaring, and those who know know of whom I speak.

14. I agree with a lot of the names on the list, but
I'd put Jorma Kaukonen and David Bromberg on there ahead of some of the names. YLMV

3. One of the best I ever saw...
Imagine this guy played the Duane part when Dickie was in the ABB, then played the Dikie part when Derek took the Duane part in the ABB, then stepped in for Jerry Garcia in various incarnations of the "What's left of the Grateful Dead"...

I sw the "Deepest End" show in NOLA and it was the best display of guitar playing I have ever seen in one night. Not to mention the show was like the Last Waltz in the number and caliber of talent...
