"Owned and Operated By an American"

Any of you ever seen these? I think its another way of saying owned and operated by a white person! Or it lets people know they aren't Indian or Pakistani. Either way, I found it so disgusting I immediately left to find another motel!

I found another motel and just per chance it was owned an operated by an Indian gentleman. He was so nice. He let me use his personal computer and even offered me some of his dinner. I am glad I left the other motel.

Any of you have experiences like this with motels?

1. Not motels, but the Dunkin Donuts around here......
Put up huge signs with this long essay about the family that owns several of the locations in this area (Northern New Jersey). On the surface it is just a family history, but they put them up shortly after 9/11 so the intent was fairly obvious.

It made me switch by business over to another dunkin donuts location though, one that happened to be owned and opeated by someone of middle eastern descent and I'm happy to say that even immediately post-9/11 their business was booming and they seemed to have an incredible rapport with their customers.

3. On vacation last week, I saw it on a gas station ...
in Oklahoma, just passing through -- Muskogee, no less.

I went to another station so couldn't ask whether the oil was pumped in the U.S. -- don't want all that furrin oil in my car, no sirree. Give me that good, old, red-blooded American oil! Not that oil Americans have shed red blood to conquer.

4. I've never seen a sign like that
but I do think signs like that are code for "other people are not as good as whites." Shrub and the Repukes excell in speaking this kind of code.

13. I live in Norfolk VA...and I recall we used to have signs...
..dogs and sailors keep of the grass.

It got so bad here an Admiral threatened to pull the Navy out of Norfolk....well we just went about making the Navy more welcome than a dog to a tick.

What a great sign you found...and I am sure it was posted at the motel, probably in the old Downtown or Oceanview???

8. Nope, but on a related post-9/11 note, I have seen American flags, or
flag stickers, put up in the windows of businesses owned by Arabs and other Middle-Easterners. There is an Afghani restaurant around here, and that was the first place like that sporting a flag after 9/11. I can't say I blame them.

10. I wish I still had the Grey Goose vodka ad
from my boss' restaurant industry magazine. Basically explained how the company was owned by Murkans, paid taxes in Murka, and brought all the money home from France to Murka.

I was so appalled, I switched to Ketel One.

And believe me, between that and my "I only drink French wine" campaign, I'm affecting the local economy more than it's seen here since the marshal went on the wagon. :)

Finally, a grass roots effort I can really get behind!

Proud patron of immigrant businesses. Empowering the American dream.

17. Was it a Motel 6 or Red Roof Inn?
There was a lot of news during the more virulent part of the anti-French backlash that those chains are owned by a French company. However, the franchisees tried to get out word that they are all (or mostly) Americans. So the sign you saw might have been anti-Indian/Pakistani, might have been anti-French, or might have had to do with the Motel 6/ Red Roof stories mentioned above. Regardless, it's certainly depressing; I'm proud of you that you chose to stay elsewhere.
