Back in the late 80s, early 90s I had this car

Oh, why can't we have cars that are fast AND feel fast?

1. Heh, I just test drove a 2011 VW GTI turbo diesel last week.

Four door model. It was pretty nice indeed. Love the fact that you can get 50+ MPG on it without the electric motor.

It's a blast to drive. Too bad it uses premium. But the gas mileage is still decent and did I mention it's fun to drive?!

Looking back, I kinda wish I went for the TDI though. Better mileage with the diesel.

4. I had an 1982 Scirrocco

Same deal..loved it like crazy. Drove awesome, was fast, fuel efficient and it loved the highway.
Very comfortable car to drive.
I'd get one again if I could afford it, just for the fun of it.

6. I got a '79 Scirocco in college

and kept it for years. It was dispatched eight years later when the hood latch rusted through and the hood flew up at 60 mph on the freeway coming home from work one night. That was the single scariest thing that has ever happened to me in a car.

Great car - drove it to Boston and back twice for law school. A little slow off the line with the automatic, but a great handler and highway cruiser. Mega fun car.

17. They actually felt a lot faster than they actually were.

Actual 0-60 times were only a tad under 10 seconds, not fast in my book. They felt much faster because they had really short gearing. They did handle rather well, which allowed them to keep more of that speed in the corners. The Scirocco was the same way. I had a 2001 GTi with the 1.8T that I had heavily modified. By the time I was done, I had about 240hp at the wheels. Now THAT was a fast ride.
