Anybody ever drink PJ?
It was the summer of '63 and I was a lifeguard in Myrtle Beach, SC.
I was 21.
The job didn't pay much, but the 'side benefits' were fantastic.

The previous March I'd signed up in the air national guard and would be off in late August for USAF pilot training.
This was my last summer of 'freedom'.

Our employer had this huge old Victorian house near the beach that was the lifeguard dorm. There were a dozen or so of us there.
Party Central.

One Saturday my partner on our lifeguard stand said "PJ party tonight."
"We're having a pajama party?"
"Naw man. PJ! Purple Jesus! Time to GRAIN DOWN!"
"OK, What's PJ and what's GRAIN DOWN?"

"Aw man, where you from? PJ is Purple Jesus. GRAIN DOWN is Everclear Grain Alcohol. It's about 1000 proof. You mix 2 parts grape juice to one part Everclear. HOOWEE!"

"Why Purple Jesus?"
"Well the first time we brewed it up I handed a cup to my buddy. He took a drink and said "JESUS! What IS this purple shit?"
Hence Purple Jesus. PJ."

Live and learn.
:-)

4. I do not recommend it.
Unless you're fond of crushing hangovers.
I stuck to beer most of that summer.

5. No, but we did drink quite a bit of "Thundergrape" in college back in the 70's.
It was a mixture of of Thunderbird (technically, it's a wine!) and Grape Kool-Aid. :)

Sometime there were a few orange slices thrown in to make everyone think it was punch!

Oh God, how disgusting!

8. Oh yes, it was an extremely intoxicating and hangover inducing mixture.

It was also very cheap and was often mixed up in someone's dorm room trash can!

Right now, I'm having a Mike's Lemonade to toast our President, CIA, and Armed Services!
