When she was filming Steele Magnolias, they other actresses on set asked her for advice for the beauty parlor scenes. Her respose was that she couldn't help because she was never there when her "hair" was being done!

She also said she never took personal offense at dumb blond jokes 'cause she wasn't dumb and she wasn't blond.

I have a friend who was married into the Johnny Cash/June Carter family. She said you'd never recognize Dolly if you ran into her on the street- no wig, no makeup, totally different look.
