Pope John Paul II is going to be beautified tomorrow. Can someone explain
why they need to have a beautician come in and put makeup on him. Isn't he dead, too.

:wtf:

1. Jeez the Catholics...
so what "miracles" did they attribute to him?

A pedophile enabler bastard if there ever was one.

But, I ain't a catholic, but an abuse survivor.

I think I deserve to comment.

6. Perhaps a major part of the problem is that
the catholic church attacks others
Do people have the right to protect themselves??
I have been attacked by the catholic church since my teens.
So if you feel there is too much catholic church bashing perhaps you need to look
at the total picture.

8. I have looked at the total picture. I am pretty well informed.
I went to Catholic school for 13 years. I was an awesome experience for me and the many schoolmates that I still keep in touch with.

What good comes of making fun of a DEAD Pope? Does it heal people?

Methinks not.

9. What goes on in your house is your business
It is when you go into your neighbor's house and tell them how to live that creates the problem........

That is the problem with the catholic church ....... not the Catholics, the 'church'

11. I've never "gone into my neighbor's house" and told them how to live.
Quit pigeonholing people. The people ARE the Church..

Again, how does making fun of a DEAD Pope heal old wounds? Just askin....

10. Clearly, the OP is a copycat thread about Pope John Paul II's beatification.
Beatification vs. Beautification. See?

If you've been an attentive DUer, you'll know I'm an atheist who goes to great lengths to defend the feelimgs of both believers and atheists/skeptics in this community. I don't believe the OPs intent was to hurt any member of the community. At some point, though, we each must take responsibilty for our reactions. Beyond our actions, our reactions really are the only thing in life we can reasonably hope to control.

12. I'm sorry. I am human
and do not find it funny when people make fun of my beliefs or my religion.

13. I don't bash Catholics and I don't think I've ever made fun of the late Pope
but here's the sort of thing that can get me critical of SOME Catholics.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/7974513/Britain-a-selfish-and-hedonistic-wasteland-says-Archbishops-adviser.html

I don't particularly like being told that my country is 'the epicentre of the culture of death' and more seriously I do not like attacks on liberalism.

The Economic Right have done a lot more to reverse progress and crush people in my country than the Religious Right. Nevertheless, they are sometimes linked (cf Iain Duncan-Smith); and ALL forms of ideological right-wingers are objectionable IMO.

There are of course plenty of religious liberals - and people like Adamus will have a go at them too.

14. Yeah, well, ya got me there.
I hadn't seen that.

All religions have their issues. I understand that Catholicism does.

But I just don't understand how making fun of a dead Pope solves any problems.

17. And I am sorry too,. I also do not find it funny to have a group
that wants to continue denial of civil right to GLBT's, wants to deny a woman's right to choice, wants to continue protective pedophiles and child abusers.

I really did not want this thread to go down this road, but apparently it has.

15. No. That was not the intention. Obviously you didn't get the point of adding one
letter to a word, completely changes the meaning

BTW, my wife of 15 years is a catholic, as was my first wife. My father is an ordained methodist minister (w/ a PhD in philosophy). So if I want to have fun with a word, then I will.
