Beatles Fans: If the they had stayed together post Abbey Road, what would the next album be?
Would it be "The Twelfth Album (AKA God)"?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Twelfth_Album

Would it be "Finishing School"?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool/content/articles/2005/11/10/beatles_greatestalbumnevermade_feature.shtml

Or would it have been a different album altogether (now)?

My thoughts: They would have had more than just 2 George songs

It would also have had "Back Seat of my Car" but perhaps in a completely different form

Lennon's "Jealous Guy" makes it on, even if it was called "Child of Nature" at the time. Although for that, John would have had his 'Lost Weekend' by then.

Your thoughts?

1. As I've said many times, I put The Beatles in a class where no
one else can go, IMO, There's The Beatles and then everyone else. In answering this post, I'm big time into John's post Beatle music but not so much Paul's. So I'd go w/mostly John's tunes.

4. But what do you think would have eventually ended up on a Beatles record?
And I agree with you, btw

The Beatles were in a class where no one else can go

No matter how hard they tried

Pink Floyd, Cheap Trick and Elliot Smith tried, and failed

But hell, they all had a lot of good music nonetheless

2. I think they would have gone back to the "White Album" template
There are numerous articles out there discussing how Abbey Road was a deliberate, focused effort to show that they could still record a great "Beatles" album (even though there's not a hell of a lot of Lennon / McCartney collaboration).

I'm sure "All Things Must Pass" would have made it on, perhaps "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "Photograph" and most definitely "I Found Out"...years ago I made a mix CD doing exactly that, culling the best and most Beatle-y tracks from the initial solo albums.

I think The Beatles, as a band, would have vetoed "God"...and maybe Lennon would have made enough noise to override the veto. Maybe not. Maybe Paul, Ringo and George would have gotten a kick out of lines like "I don't believe in BEATLES...I just believe in me, Yoko and me, and that's reality"...but I doubt it.

Then there's the issue of a song like "Wah Wah," which is a freakin' force of nature...would John and Paul really have allowed George to sound THAT good on a Beatles album?

The BBC link is just absurd...some of these songs were shit as solo tracks, why would they assume that they'd pass muster as Beatles tracks?

5. I have a problem with "Beware of Darkness" not being on many people's list
That song was awesome as a George song

But imagine the three part harmonies on that song...
