I just pulled a tick from my dog's head.
It was like a big, gray, popcorn seed.

I grabbed it with tweezers and pulled firmly. It looks like I got the whole thing, but there is a lump on his skin, still.

I am thoroughly disgusted.

2. 2 copycat threads already?
I'm flattered. Still thoroughly disgusted, but flattered.

3. You should have heated the tweezers first.
You may have left something behind- be prepared for a trip to the vet.

4. It looks like I got the whole tick, but how can I tell for sure?
I examined the spot on my dog, and there is a little lump, but it could just be swollen...?

Right now it's in a jar with rubbing alcohol. It looks like I got it all, but I'm not sure.

5. I would get your dog checked for lyme disease
My dog had it and it took a long time to recover, both for him and for us.

6. Next time
Get some Campho-Phenique and drop a couple of drops on the tick and wait a couple of seconds before you try to remove the tick. The camphor shocks them, forcing them to release their pincher grip for a short bit of time.

8. My dog ate a big chunk of dead carp this afternoon.
In the middle of eating it he rolled on top of it. And when I came over to take it away from him, he dragged it out into the lake and stood in the water eating it. So now my dog smells like a big dead carp.

I'm telling this so maybe you will think my dog is more disgusting than yours.

9. That's awesome, LOL!
Mine grabbed the ventral plate(?) of a dead crab on the beach and wouldn't let me near until she finished it when she was a pup. Surprisingly, no harm done.

14. Naw, he's fine.
The carp was in really cold water so, it wasn't even rotten and my dog is on a raw diet anyway. To him it was like a sushi bar.

18. The neighbor's Brittany Spaniel
would wolf down small bluegills and crappies whole. He stood beside us waiting for a live fishie to chomp. It was amazing. It didn't appear to cause any ill effects.

10. UPDATE!
That little lump left behind... it was the tick's head. I put nail polish remover on a cotton ball and held it there for about a minute or two. Then I pulled it out with tweezers. Stubborn little thing!

My dog was so good. He sat patiently through the whole thing! Then he got a bath. Now he's good as new.

12. I keep Revolution on my animals so they won't get ticks or fleas.
It's expensive and they sometimes get ticks anyway.

13. Preventic collars are the only thing that keeps ticks off my dogs
they are expensive, but last 3 months & are worth every cent.

16. Get one of these, they are easier to use than
tweezers because you can get underneath the tick and get the whole thing, usually in one move. I put some alcohol on the sucker first, to paralyze it, and then use this to remove.

17. We used to pull bigger
ones from the neighbor kids.

Neighborhood dogs had ticks as big as a fat grape. We would pull them off(no sissy tweezers), drop them on the sidewalk and watch the dogs gobble them up. But that was 'back in the day'.
