I wont go into details but in the mid 90's my life had turned to such shit that I was seriously considering suicide. Through a series of events that I had no influence on and no control over, at the age of 54, I ended up loseing everything I had spent my entire life building up. All I can tell you is that no matter how things are now, THEY WILL CHANGE! The lesson I finally learned is that life ebbs and it flows but no matter what, it will not stay where it is.
I had to apply this lesson not too long ago. I, like you, had been unemployed for so long that I had reached a point where I had absolutly no idea how I was going to get through the next month. I know exactly how you must feel. The constant knot in your stomach, the dread when the phone rings because you know it is from someone that you can't pay, telling you what a deadbeat your are even though you have spent your whole life trying to be responsible, the complete loss of self esteem. First, you need to realize that the people on the other end of the phone are there because they couldn't find a better job either, I mean really, would you do that for a living if you had a better option? The second thing you need to realize is that, in spite of what they tell you, most probably, this is not your fault! You probably believed, like most of us, that if you worked hard and played by the rules, you would be O.K. You were lied to. The system is rigged and it is not rigged in your favor.
All I can tell you is that life is not stagnent. Wherever you are at the moment, you will not be in the same place 6 months from now. It may be better, it may be worse, but you will not be where you are now.
For what it's worth, every recession I've been through in the last 60 years has eventually ended and things have gotten better. I think the Republicans are over playing their hand at the moment and the tide is turning. Eventually, we will have to deal with the decline of infrastructure and the people left on the streets and there will be a big push back from the disinfranchised. It has happened throughout history and I think it will happen now. It won't happen (in my opinion) the same way as in the past , ala French Revolution, because we have much faster communication, but I believe it will happen. I see it in Minnasota. Isee it on the streets in Tucson. I see it in my gradson's attitude. I see it in Egypt. The tide is turning.
Feel good about yourself! You are not even remotly alone! Millions of us are where you are and we are not happy! THINGS WILL NOT STAY THE SAME!
