One of the greatest musicians in history is gone
Mr. Pinetop Perkins passed away earlier today at his home in Austin, TX of cardiac arrest. He was 97 years old and one of the last links to a bygone era of Blues music. Mr. Perkins toured almost until the very end and ate Big Macs and smoked Pall Malls until the end as well. But when one is a legend and 97 years old, one should be able to do what he or she wants.
RIP Pinetop. Your music and legacy will live on forever.

2. Saw him just 5 years ago or so. He was still fantastic.
And I was dead shocked. I expected the show to just be a sort of legacy thing -- "Hey, at least I got to see Pinetop Perkins" -- and I had fairly negative experiences seeing older musicians that were nevertheless much younger than Perkins (Chuck Berry springs immediately to mind). But he was fantastic in his early 90s. They helped him to his piano and sat him down, and then he just went off!

3. Oh no. He was just a legend. I've listened to him literally all my life.
RIP, man. You will be sorely missed.

5. Sad to say,
I sort of assumed he was already gone.

RIP Pinetop

6. I have a lot of his recorded work with the Muddy Waters' Band. He is a legend,

and I am sorry that he is gone, but he seemed like he loved playing and he sure got the chance. He was brilliant.

I love to see working musicians living to such ages-it is reassuring after so many who died too young.

Thank you, Mr. Perkins.

7. A true legend
Ironically, I was just thinking last month how he was still with us. May he rest in peace.
