I need some cultural interpretation.
I was in a store and saw two young black men.

One of them had a necklace of the Pillsbury Dough Boy.

Would someone explain this to me?

5. Yep, in pave rhinestones.
Pave with an accent on the e means paved with little tiny rhinestones.

The usual style of bling.

9. As in Paved.
Pave' is pronounced Pah-VAY.

Rapper necklaces seem to be made out of pave.

6. After thinking it over,

I see several possible interpretations (although I don't know the cultural context):

"I got the $$$-boy." or

"I got the $$$. Boy!" or

"I got the $$$, boy."

But the last may be to wander into a minefield.

(Personally, I don't give a damn if you're white, black, green or purple; it's what you do that matters to me. And here I generally(!) make zero effort to figure out anyone's ethnicity, sex, orientation, whatever (sometimes I step on toes as a result); and I like it that way. However, sometimes people make it clear (truthfully?), and rather-more rarely I remember; and sometimes I remember a picture, but I can't swear to its accuracy.)

However, rhinestones would seem to somewhat contradict the message.

...

Although I do suspect that some cats post here. And this is a matter of great concern to me...

The Evil Cat Empire is everywhere.

7. Started earlier to have internet problems:
Edited on Fri Mar-04-11 06:52 AM by necso
slow/partial DU loading (mainly); some delays on DNS; most recently, redirected google link (tried two ways, seems better).

...

Now, google DNS failure, redirected to my ISP's can't find page (before, some flash crap for a flash, then bing... well, it said bing, anyway).

Um, for not-so-technical folks, the implication of DNS pointing to the wrong site (even briefly) is that malicious stuff could be run on your computer, especially if you don't know about blocking scripts and flash, etc.

Google being a widely used site, it would be a great target.

DU DNS failed for a time (failed edit); DNS problems more widely. Definitely something going on; but could be local.

11. Could be a reference to "Boyz 'n the Hood".

Ice Cube played a character named Doughboy who was the scrappy, street smart member of a group of friends who was never able to escape the poverty and violence of his neighborhood.

He takes it upon himself to avenge the murder of his half-brother and excepts the inevitable fatal consequences of his act.

Doughboy is the modern, urban equivalent of the classic existential character.

12. Best explanation yet.
Dude is still big, so it fits.

...I had to refresh my memories using wikipedia and such.

Stuff fades if you don't use it; and where and how I live there are relatively few cultural pressures placed upon me -- and popular culture has relatively little hold.

It's really kinda nice.

Well, I have to go to bed soon, "vampire" hours just aren't a good match for winter.

10. From my early 20s perspective, I think it's a reference to dough as in money.
Could be wrong though.
