I just downloaded it based on PC Magazine calling it the "Best Browser of 2003".

Any suggestions, advice?

1. Use the "Tab" feature, I do.
Hit Ctrl+T or File/New/New Tab.

Open Latest in first tab, LBN in the second, do a search on your own handle in the third, and whatever thread looks interesting in the forth, fifth, etc.

2. Mozilla is the best browser.
It'll just take awhile to catch on.

3. I've been using it for a few months now.

Right-click, "Open Link in New Tab" is incredibly handy. Keeps down on the number of browser windows you need to open.

I don't like how it handles file downloads by default, with the download manager window, so I went into Preferences and changed that.

Otherwise I have been very pleased. Seems to perform better than IE. You'll like it.

On edit: Don't forget to enable the Pop-Up blocker! Blocks about 99.5% of that crap from my experience! (Edit.. Preferences.. Privacy & Security.. Popup Windows)

6. Be sure to run the Cookie Manager OFTEN
It's under Tools/Cookie Manager/Manage Stored Cookies. Be sure to click the box that says "Don't allow sitess that set removed cookies to set future cookies." I just LOVE that feature. Just think; I don't have to put up with DoubleClick ever again.

Think of it as AdAware with a stick shift.

4. Have fun with skins

Also, for tabbed browsing:

1) The fastest way is generally to right-click a link and then select "Open Link in New Tab."

2) Go into Options and set "Windows and Tabs" to "Open Link in Background." This will let you open a whole set of threads (or any other sort of links) at once while keeping the "Latest Threads" screen in the foreground.

(New tabs use a lot less memory than new windows, so there's no reason not to go hog-wild.)

7. middle-click
under "edit->preferences->tabbed browsing" you can opt to have the middle mouse button open a link in a new tab. (i think the default is to open in a new window.)

middle-clicking is much faster for me than right-clicking and making a menu selection, especially because the popup menu doesn't always pop up in the same relative location (say, if the link is near the bottom of the window.)

even under windows, i discovered that i can middle-click. one of the preference settings on the logitech mouse driver lets you say that clicking the scroll wheel (not rolling it, clicking it) shall be treated as a middle button click.

5. Nothing specific, just congrats for joining the crowd.
Been using Mozilla and Phoenix (the slightly faster version without mail and news-- now called Firebird) for a while now as backup for Opera, my favorite browser. It's always done a few things better than Opera, and just about everything better than IE.

9. auto-search
you can search (or "find") text in a page just by typing it. you don't have to bring up the "find" dialog. mozilla assumes if you're typing random stuff while viewing a page, that it's a search string.

10. Try Phoenix.
It's a Mozilla side-project that I think is even better than Mozilla itself. look somewhere on mozilla.org for it.

11. Yep uninstall Moz and get Phoenix.
Phoenix is slated to replace Mozilla in a few versions. Actually its called 'Mozilla Firebird' now, and its quite the little browser.
