I'm curious about what makes people go "eww".

1. I'll go first.... Natto

Japanese Natto which is fermented soy beans. It sounds good, but my body would not let me swallow.

6. Mom and Mrs. Mopar both adore stinky cheese
blue, gorgonzola, roquefort, razor sharp cheddar - they're in. We brought a piece of Limberger to Moms at Christmas... Now Mom is a fervent composter and recycler, and there is NEVER trash around.
After one taste, Mom (!) fired the cheese, and it's package out the back door, left to rot in the snowbank 'til spring!

108. This was a pinkish, opaque but vaguely translucent liquid
in which lay (I won't say floated) a sort of dumpling. The liquid had a slimey feel and beneath the surface drifted white, squiggly, tube-like things with the texture of surgical tubing. As I left, about 30 seconds later, a bunch of old German guys were sitting there grinning from ear to ear.

it's just the taste of plain milk nauseates me. When I drink chocolate milk, I put ALOT of syrup in it, it is dark brown, that milk taste has to be completely masked, I have no idea why, I have been like this since around aged 5.

55. most of my gagging food experiences had more to do with texture than flavor
but I think it was the combo in a shark (fin?) soup I had as a teen during a very fancy formal dinner in Taipei- every course was worse than the preceding one but the hot fishy oil and guts in a cup were pretty bad. One of my sisters even knocked hers over so she wouldn't have to eat it (of course another was brought out immediatly) OH GAWD it was horrible.

59. I can't say exactly what might have been the worst, but I can
remember one occasion which fits the bill.

When I was very young in school, this being the 60s, we were learning about our two latest states in the country, and we delved into the Hawaiian culture to a good extent.

One of the things I remember we talked about was the food, and in one particular--poi. Flash past about 30 years, to the mid 80s, and my mom and I finally made it to Hawaii. On one of our trips aeound, we came to a small diner, and I saw poi on the menu, so I ordered it. I hated it. I don't know what I had been expecting, but it wasn't that.

At least one less thing on my bucket list, anyway!

83. Pretty much tastes like it smells.
I peed into an empty bottle of white wine in a drunken stupor the night before...

The next morning, still quite hazy, I thought a little "hair of the dog" might help. You can see where this went...

64. Ivermectin horse wormer
I didn't really put it in my mouth. Back when we did our own de-worming, we'd buy large bottles of the injectible used for cattle. In cows you can inject it, but in horses if you try they can get really bad abscesses. So we'd draw it up in a syringe and squirt it in the horses' mouths. One of my mares got really tricky about it - she didn't fight or clamp her lips down like the others, but she learned to stick her tongue up against the end of the syringe so it would squirt back at us. On time, most of a dose ended up in my mouth.

GARGGGGGHHHHH - no wonder the horses hate worming time! That stuff is the worst tasting thing I have ever had in my mouth. Bitter, acidic, sour, all at once. and the taste just doesn't wash out. My mouth tasted that stuff for hours and hours.

The only two good things - 1) it is not poisonous to humans; 2) If I had any worms in my system they were gone!

Just called "Wipe" as I recall. If you got it on your hands it would somehow go into your system and a little while later you could taste it. yuck (but it worked pretty good)

When I cooked it, it smelled like burning tires.
It tasted much worse than it smelled, and I was amazed...

77. I really enjoy a lot of them, but this one was pretty extreme-Many of the Japanese
ramen soups are hot and spicey, which I like, but this one was just too odd for me.
It was probably something kids in Korea eat for breakfast, too-had cartoons on the package.

I used to really like a type of canned fish from Thailand, small fish like sardines, packed in crushed red hot Thai peppers, but sweet-it was really good, but I haven't been able to find them in years.

101. 3 week old fermented tea...
I tend to get a little cluttered at times.

I was on a 200 mile road trip by myself and stopped at a Burger King to eat. I brought my drink back to the truck and was on the highway driving along when I grabbed for my soda in the cup holder. I grabbed the cup that was on the passenger side. It was another BK cup that was filled with tea that had been sitting in my truck for almost a month.

I took a huge gulp of it. I quickly realized my mistake and began retching as I tried not to crash into anything.

103. Brussels Sprouts or anything extremely bitter
I HATE hate hate bitter tasting foods. I also don't like very sweet foods either. Can't even smell most overly sweet liquors without nearly hurling.

But bitter foods really get to me in a bad way. I don't care how you make it, its nasty.

if cooked appropriately, that is! One of our favorite veggies, but only very recently, when we discovered a few really good recipes (and a good source - Trader Joes)

125. My step-father is an incredible cook and makes things taste wonderful but not the sprouts
Like i said, it doesn't matter how they are cooked or even how fresh they are, my taste buds revolt at their taste. Its just like drinking beer. ALL beer tastes nasty ass to me, no matter what brand. The IPA beers are the worst, they taste so bad to me that its nearly vomit inducing.

My son is a beer connoisseur so he keeps wanting me to try a new microbrew every now and then. Yuck.

Did a brief stint with a rockabilly band some years ago so I was using Brylcreem on my hair to get that look. We had been on the road a while and I was really dog tired when I got up, walked into the bathroom in the motel, picked up my tube of Brylcreem instead of the tube of toothpaste. Gawd that was awful! x( :puke:

126. that stuff you have to drink before a colonoscopy
That stuff was the most vile shit I've ever tasted. The more I tried to cut the taste with lemonade powder the worse it tasted. To have to drink a whole gallon of it in 3 hours made the experience that much worse. Now that I think of it I may have to do it all over again next year.
