Golly Gee, It's been quite a while since I've been around
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 01:41 AM by WannaBeGrumpy
Well here I am, and I plan to be back and active again. I wonder if anyone even remembers me. :) I'm sure there are quite a few people I used to talk to that are gone and even more newer people that I haven't yet had the chance to meet.

Anyways, I'm glad to be back. The past year and a half or so have been kind of a blur. When My mother (MrsGrumpy AKA Screamingmeemie) moved away, I stuck around the Midwest and finished my first year of college. Unfortunately, I did not stick with it as I was missing my family quite badly and was generally unhappy. Never fear, I do plan to go back to school in the near future. I just wasn't ready for it yet.

The past two summers, I have spent at Cedar Point in Ohio working on rides and have enjoyed myself immensely. Then last winter, I decided to stay in Ohio and lifeguard at Castaway Bay, which is Cedar Point's indoor water park resort. I have met a lot of really great lifelong friends and can say that I was finally happy.

This winter, however, I decided that I just couldn't stand another Midwest winter and I moved to Houston to be with my mom. I had missed her in my life so very much and I feel better and happier than ever.

I really missed DU a lot and am glad to be back on board. I missed you all and look forward to meeting some new people around here.

And you know you can always....

ASK ME ANYTHING! :P

1. I remember you.
I'm sure you don't remember me. I'm the resident curmudgeon around here (even though I'm only in my late 20s).

I'm glad you're happy. And I also want to share that it took me until I was 26 to be ready for college. As long as you go back, that's the important part. :)

I'm assuming you're young yet. Enjoy life now, and when it's right, go back to school and get a good education. :)

2. That's the plan. I don't understand why...
it has become so important for young people to map their whole lives out at 18. College makes it difficult, often, to switch majors and classes. I'm 21...(well, 21 in 4 days :P) and I don't see why it is supposedly socially unacceptable for me to try new things and travel and enjoy my life while I'm very young and unattached to things.

I have plenty of time to go to college and I have been taking some time to live on my own and experience new things and people. I learned from the passing of my father to live without regret. I could die next week for all I know, and I'd like to think that I lived.

BTW...I remember you. haha. I have very excellent memory. :)

13. Awesome attitude to have.

I didn't have fun before college. Instead, I worked for 48 hours/week at a crappy job I hated and resented.

BTW, Happy early 21st Birthday. Drink responsibly and have a sober cab. :)

3. My dear WannaBeGrumpy!
Hey I remember you!

Welcome back, and enjoy...

I hear the winters in the midwest are brutal, and I'm sure you'll enjoy them a lot more in Houston.

I'm glad you're happy!

:hi:

5. Extremely happy as I haven't seen snow in almost a year....
We had a bit of a cold snap but most of the time it's been very temperate. Our winter here is basically over and it's 70 degrees and up from here on out.

Thank you for the welcome back. I hope you are well

10. We're doing alright. Enjoying the nice weather.
It's nice for us to be together again and helps us to continue to move forward. I have learned quite a bit about life in the past few years and I feel really optimistic about the years ahead.

I'm sure glad to be back though.

16. You probably took a sabbatical before I came here, but welcome back.
.
.
.
I grew up in Jackson, MI and Cedar Point was an annual summer treat for a lot of us.
.
.
I ended up HAVING to wait longer than I wanted to go to college... but if I had gone
right away, I probably would have drunk myself out within a semester or three.
.
.
When I finally got to go (over 10 years later), I was HONGRY for it... found it hard
to declare a major because I wanted to learn about EVERYTHING ("gimme what you got"),
but worked full-time and went to school fulltime and kept a 3.7 GPA.
.
.
I think it's a shame that most feel compelled to go immediately. There SHOULD be a
year of real life before people dive into academia and the real world -- time enough
for that.
.
.
I think you're doing the right thing for you. Impressive, as so many people do not
have a clue as to the path that's right for them -- only the one prescribed for them
by others.
.
.
.

20. I lived in St. Clair Shores, MI before going to work at Cedar Point...
and every year throughout school we took a trip there. On those trips, I always thought it looked like such a fun job and was dying to work there when I got old enough. I never thought I would though. But I did, and it's even better than I had expected. It's probably the MOST fun job EVER! :D

Anyway, I feel as if right now is the time to make myself happy and grow stronger. I love to learn. It's my favorite thing to do. Right now, though, I do better learning on my own that in a classroom.

Nice to meet you! :) :hi:

21. I will tell her! She lurks around here often so she will probably...
see this.

Yes, there was a guy. That is no more. We split up in May 2009. Long story short: He tried to make me into something I wasn't...i.e. perfect suburban housewife. I, on the other hand, needed him to grow up. I went to Cedar Point and realized he was trying to control me from Michigan and just couldn't do it anymore.

I am now semi-dating someone. I say semi because he lives in Ohio right now and times are tough so it's really impossible for us to be together. I am happy. It's been over a year that we have had this relationship/ friendship. It's been super good for both of us. Plus he is 8 years older than me, so I don't have to worry about him growing up. I keep him from being depressed that's he's approaching 30. :D

Glad to see you and I'm very happy to be back. :hi:

You may not remember me because I don't always post that much. A lot of the DUers from way back are long gone; it's good to see someone come back. Welcome back!
