My mouth guard is making me gag...

so, I picked up the rest of the stuff I needed today for roller derby..helmet, pads, and mouth guard. I'm having a hard time with the mouth guard. I fitted it tonight, I can't close my mouth and it makes me gag.

Anyway here's a pic from practice before I got my safety equipment :)

Is it possible you're not putting it in right? Or......do you HAVE to wear it?

4. yeah..lol..I really don't want to frig up the teeth..

was blessed with some straight strong teeth, very little need for a dentist. :)

3. I do have to wear it.

the way it works, is that you put it in boiling water for 90 seconds...then you fit it to your teeth. It fits my teeth...but I can't close my mouth. It doesn't go back towards my throat or anything like that, just covers my teeth. But the damn thing is so big and the texture of it just sets off my gag reflex. I looked at the kids sizes but I think they're going to be too small.

Glad you like the pic :) I am having a blast! My helmet is a lovely hot pink, mouth guard is purple. My peanut loves it, lol.

5. had to wear one for footbaal as a kid. had the same problem.

fixed it by cutting about 3/8 - 1/2 inch off the back part, so it would rub against the back my mouth.

6. the thing is, it's not rubbing

it bugs me that I can't close my mouth...I should be able to close my mouth with it in, right? And then it gets all this saliva going, and I think that maybe what is making me gag...I dunno, lol :)

7. they're not comfy, that's why you see players take them out right after a play is over

still, you might try trimming it to fit better. i messed with mine a couple days to get it right.

9. after getting it to ft right, boil it one last time to round off any edges created by cutting
