Sounds worse than it is since there's very little feeling in thin ear cartilege. I used to do it back in the wildlife rehab days. There's actually a code )where the punches are on which ears) when a bunch of critters are involved.

That baby, if I recall it right, is number 12. Front-1, middle-2, rear-3. Start with right ear. And zero is zero.
